Vacant storefronts don't always have to stay dark while owners wait for permanent tenants. Zero Empty Spaces has activated 34 vacant commercial spaces across five states, primarily creating affordable studios for local artists. Now the company is expanding its model to include small business incubation, art sales and other uses. Brixmor and Everview Partners are combining on a $2.3 billion acquisition of Slate Grocery REIT. Brixmor will acquire a 23-asset portfolio for $636 million, while a new joint venture with Everview will acquire 92 additional grocery-anchored centers for $1.7 billion. Brixmor also has identified approximately $100 million of redevelopment and outparcel development opportunities within its 23-asset portfolio. Skyview High Summer School combined tenant collaborations, interactive contests, themed “classes” and an Attendance Report app that rewarded participation across multiple weeks.
