Working in Yellowstone National Park requires balancing productivity with precision. With peak-season traffic, winding roads, changing grades and wildlife activity, crews needed to complete a mill-and-replace project efficiently and reopen the road as quickly as possible. Using a WIRTGEN W200Fi, the crew was able to mill more than 7 feet in a single pass, helping complete the 26-foot-wide roadway in just four passes. Fewer passes helped keep production moving while minimizing disruption to park visitors. Setting machine boundaries doesn't have to be complicated. On John Deere P-Tier excavators, virtual fences can be configured directly through the in-cab display for functions like ceiling, reach, floor and swing limits. Operators can position the machine where they want a movement boundary to stop, select "match" and set that point as the maximum limit. Whether working around structures, utilities or other site obstacles, virtual fences allow operators to establish machine boundaries based on the demands of the task at hand. Adjustments can be made directly from the display, making it easy to fine-tune settings as job site conditions change. By matching the machine's current position to a virtual fence setting, operators can create customized movement limits without complicated setup.
