This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're celebrating the incredible Hispanic professionals who make University Hospitals stronger every single day. Today, we're spotlighting Alejandrina I., Anesthesia Provider Coordinator at UH Cleveland Medical Center. Alejandrina's journey at CMC spans an impressive 23 years, and it all started as a Patient Service Representative. "I loved talking to patients when they would check in for their appointments," she shares. "I have a fun and happy personality, and I love to help people." That heart for people has carried her through every chapter of her career. From role to role, she's found something new to learn and someone new to learn from. "Each role that I've had has been different and rewarding to me because I learned a lot and I have worked with some amazing people." Today, Alejandrina coordinates anesthesia time across multiple departments, a role that requires precision, collaboration, and a whole lot of heart. "It makes my day to know I have done my best to help," she says. One of the most meaningful parts of her work? Being fluent in Spanish. "When I come across a Spanish-speaking family, it gives me great joy knowing that I can communicate with them and answer their questions." Meet Bernadette G., Patient Access Representative I at University Hospitals. For more than two decades, Bernadette has found her calling in helping patients and families navigate their healthcare journey. "Whether I am assisting with scheduling, insurance verification, patient care, or simply offering a kind word, I know that even small actions can make a meaningful difference in someone's day," she shares. Her motivation comes from the trust patients place in her team. "I am motivated by the trust patients place in us and by the chance to help create a positive experience during times when they may be feeling anxious or overwhelmed." When asked what community means to her, Bernadette's answer reflects the values that guide her work every day. "Community means supporting one another, treating people with dignity and respect, and ensuring that everyone has access to quality healthcare and resources. Working in healthcare has shown me the importance of compassion, teamwork, and service." Looking back on her career, Bernadette credits her journey to something deeper than skill alone. "My journey has been shaped by dedication, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping others. Healthcare is about more than medicine; it's about building relationships, listening to patients, and being there when people need support." UH Cleveland Medical Center offers comprehensive medical and surgical hair growth management for men and women, featuring personalized solutions to enhance hair health, appearance and patient confidence. Services include platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), surgical hair transplantation and forehead contouring. The team also addresses beard and eyebrow concerns and hair loss from burns, scarring or traumatic injury. “I think the multidisciplinary approach we take to help patients with hair restoration sets University Hospitals apart as an academic medical center,” says Amanda Goslawski, MD, a facial plastic surgeon with the UH Department of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery . Both PRP and PRF are natural, autologous blood-derived therapies used to support orthopedic healing, skin rejuvenation and hair restoration. Dr. Goslawski explains that PRP has a peak growth factor rate on the day of injection and can last for about seven days, whereas PRF has a peak release on day seven and is absorbed for up to three weeks. Treatments do require maintenance. Dr. Goslawski recommends patients start with a series of three appointments. “We want to target the hair at all stages of growth, so we will do three monthly injections because that is the growth cycle of the scalp,” she says. “At six months, we can evaluate results because the hair will have had time to respond to the introduction of PRP or PRF.” Afterward, she recommends patients return annually to maintain results. University Hospitals has launched an innovative medical initiative that provides comprehensive, evidence-based care to female athletes of all ages and at all competitive levels. The mission of the newly formed Specialized Care for Female Athletes program is to empower and support women in sports and to extend the UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute & Orthopaedic Surgery's standing as a trusted regional and national leader in female athlete health. “As we have cared for athletes from Pee Wee to pro over the past decade, we continue to listen to our patients and seek ways to enhance their level of care,” says James Voos, MD, Executive Director of the UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center, the Charles H. Herndon Professor and Chair at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and Head Team Physician for the Cleveland Browns. “Formalizing this specialized program for women and girls is a direct response to feedback from our female athletes, and we are committed to addressing their unique needs as their health care partner.” The no-cost program integrates multidisciplinary expertise to close a longstanding gap in the navigation of women’s sports medicine. Female athletes disproportionately present with specific injuries, including ACL tears and stress fractures, and face challenges related to their metabolic, hormonal and cardiovascular profiles. These distinctions are often underrecognized in standard sports medicine protocols. Too often, women find themselves reaching out to multiple providers without a pathway for coordinated medical care.
