This month's Tax in Brief looks at what's actually driving real-time tax, why a local e-invoicing fix can quietly stall your next market entry, and what a scalable compliance build looks like in practice. The Canada–US tariff dispute is moving faster than most operating plans can track. In the past week: US$20 billion of Canadian goods became subject to a 50% U.S. tariff, Canada set counter-tariffs on C$27.6 billion of U.S. imports for September 8. Asia-Pacific enterprises may consider this "a North America issue", that’s the wrong assumption. An Asia-based component supplier to a Canadian manufacturer selling into the US may carry no direct tariff liability at all, and still feel the effect, through sourcing decisions, purchasing volumes, or shifting customer demand once the downstream economics change. The better question to ask? Where does this measure intersect with our value chain, and which suppliers, customers, or products sit on either side of it? The headline tells you what changed. Understanding the impact requires connecting that change to the specific products and trade flows that matter to your business. Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Global Trade Content can help you keep pace with tariff and regulatory change as it happens, find out more today. https://lnkd.in/gE-fqdj9 #GlobalTrade #Tariffs #SupplyChain #TradeCompliance

  • Come for the AI caricature sketch. Stay for the conversation about what responsible AI looks like across government. For tax and accounting teams, the opportunity is not simply to automate more work. It is to use AI in ways that improve efficiency while maintaining confidence in the data, outputs and decisions that follow. That means combining technology with trusted information, transparent workflows and human oversight, so professionals remain in control of the work that matters most. We’re live at Tech in Gov 2026 in Canberra, speaking with government leaders about how AI can support more connected, efficient and accountable ways of working. 📍 Thomson Reuters, Booth 164 📅 4–5 August 🏛️ National Convention Centre Canberra #TechInGov #TaxTechnology #AccountingTechnology #ResponsibleAI #DigitalGovernment #ThomsonReuters Barry White, Vincent Lam, Tony Ventura

  • Mandatory climate reporting is here. Most teams are still asking the same question: where do I even start?   AASB now requires in-scope entities to disclose under AASB S2, but clear guidance has been thin, so finance and sustainability teams keep patching the gaps between them.   New on Checkpoint Australia: XYZ Model Reporting – Sustainability Reporting. Practical guidance, disclosure checklists, industry example reports and workflow tools. Grant Thornton Australia, including a member of the AASB S2 Implementation Advisory Panel, authored it.   Understand what's required and see what good looks like. Want a look? • Spreadsheet-heavy and localised tax processes can become difficult to manage as businesses expand across countries, systems and teams. Join Maria Garcia, Global Indirect Tax Director at JLL, for a practical look at how JLL is moving toward a more consistent global operating model for indirect tax. Maria will share how JLL is working to create: - clearer visibility across tax operations - stronger control and auditability - more standardised workflows across markets - less reliance on manual intervention We’ll also explore how connected, AI-assisted workflows can help identify issues earlier while keeping tax professionals firmly in control. 11 August 2026, 12pm AEST | 10am SGT Register now: https://lnkd.in/gpzjKUQ7 #IndirectTax #TaxTechnology #TaxTransformation #ONESOURCE

  • A major milestone in tax transparency compliance.   We're proud to announce that Thomson Reuters & Orbitax are now live with machine-to-machine transmission of the Combined Global and Domestic Minimum Tax Return (CGDMTR) directly to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).   This achievement reflects months of close collaboration between the ATO, Orbitax, and Thomson Reuters — built on a shared commitment to making Pillar Two compliance simpler, faster, and more reliable for in-scope taxpayers.   For our clients, this means a smoother, more automated path to lodging their first CGDMTR and a standardized, automated way of preparing Pillar Two calculations and returns in a single process. It's a capability built to support them well beyond this first return, as global minimum tax reporting continues to evolve in the years ahead.   A sincere thank you to the ATO for their partnership in bringing this capability to market, to the Orbitax team for their technical collaboration, and to our clients for trusting us to help navigate this new era of tax compliance together.   If you're still assessing how you'll prepare your AU Pillar Two calculations and CGDMTR, please reach out, we'd love to discuss how we can support you. https://lnkd.in/gK9eC8ab   #Pillar2 #GlobalMinimumTax #TaxTechnology #CGDMTR #ATO #ThomsonReuters #Orbitax #TaxCompliance #DigitalTax
