EcoCamp Patagonia introduces W Trek Brush, a new version of the popular W Trek in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Puerto Natales, 29 October 2024 - EcoCamp Patagonia, a sustainable dome hotel in Torres del Paine National Park, has opened its doors in September for its 23rd season. Travelers looking to explore the park in the coming months can book a new program: W Brush. This 7-day trek is a variation of the iconic W Trek. Participants will explore two national parks—Bernardo O’Higgins and Torres del Paine—and experience a remote area with unspoiled nature and few other tourists.

Hikers on the W Trek Brush will begin their adventure in Puerto Natales, boarding a boat to admire the Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers. After arriving in Puerto Toro, they will hike through a forest to reach Brush Lake. From there, the trek continues through lakes and forests, joining the famous W Trek trail by the third day. Over the next few days, hikers will experience highlights such as Grey Glacier, Paine Grande, the French Valley, and the Base of the Towers.

Accommodations range from campsites to hotels, including EcoCamp Patagonia itself. All meals, tents, sleeping bags, and mats are provided, with porters handling the luggage. The trek covers a total of 100 kilometers/62 miles over 6 days, with the 7th day reserved for departure.

Discovering Torres del Paine’s hidden side
“What’s innovative about this program is that it introduces travelers to Torres del Paine through a lesser-known, remote area, walking through forests and around lakes,” says Bernardo Domínguez, General Manager of EcoCamp Patagonia and Cascada Expediciones. “Travelers will follow in the footsteps of early explorers who discovered Torres del Paine by sea, experiencing the same sense of discovery. During the first few days, they will take a path less traveled, encountering few, if any, other tourists. It’s an opportunity to truly connect with nature, far from the internet and other distractions. They will get a back-to-basics feeling because there are not many amenities.”

Another unique aspect of the W Trek Brush compared to the traditional W Trek is that travelers will pass through Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, enjoying views of the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers.

Throughout the 7-day trek, hikers will be rewarded with diverse landscapes and vistas. They can get a complete panorama of the Paine Massif (when the skies are clear) and enjoy the emblematic landscapes and fauna and flora of the classic W route.

EcoCamp Patagonia: the world’s first geodesic dome hotel 
Participants will spend their final two nights at EcoCamp Patagonia, the world’s first geodesic dome hotel and recently awarded 2nd best resort in Central and South America in the Condé Nast Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards (UK edition).

Established in 2001, the hotel is committed to minimizing its environmental impact on the park. Energy is sourced primarily from hydroelectric power and solar panels, the domes are equipped with composting toilets, wastewater is treated through a biofilter, and waste is recycled. To encourage guests to fully immerse themselves in the surroundings and enjoy their stays, there is no Wi-Fi.

For the new season, EcoCamp installed radiators in the Standard Domes to increase the comfort of guests. The other types of rooms, the Superior and Suite Domes, already offer heating.
