About us
The Anti-Recidivism Coalition’s mission is to reduce incarceration, improve the outcomes of formerly incarcerated individuals, and to build healthier communities. The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) seeks to accomplish this Mission in a three-fold approach: (1) to advocate for fair and just policies that: reduce crime, decrease the use of incarceration, and serve the needs and well-being of formerly incarcerated people; (2) to provide services and resources to rebuild broken men and women affected by the criminal justice system that improves outcomes; and (3) to build healthier communities by returning motivated, mentally prepared, and high character men and women from incarceration to crime ridden neighborhoods to serve as ambassadors for change. In brief, ARC is a support network, a connection to services and support, and an advocate for just and fair policies.

In 2016, Californians overwhelmingly passed Prop 57, which gave people like David a path to a second chance. Under Prop 57, incarcerated people, like David, could have their sentences reexamined by participating in educational and rehabilitative programs and having good behavior. People with nonviolent offenses also had a new avenue for parole consideration. Policy change is integral at ARC and essential to bring people like David home. Meet Fred. After spending 31 years in prison, Fred was released with no family support to navigate freedom in a world that looked vastly different from 1994. Eventually, Fred found his way to ARC and was recommended to go on a river rafting trip, a trip ARC hosts every year. Fred experienced nature and excitement that he only saw on TV and built new relationships, something like family, for the first time in 31 years. It’s first-time experiences like this that ARC believes can truly give people hope and a sense of belonging.
