The FDA has approved Afrezza®, the first and only inhaled mealtime insulin for children and adolescents ages 6 and older, expanding treatment options for young people living with diabetes. We’re especially proud that physicians and researchers at the BDC contributed to the clinical research that helped make this FDA approval possible. From groundbreaking clinical trials to discoveries that improve lives, the BDC continues to lead the way in advancing diabetes care through research, innovation, and collaboration. Type 1 diabetes is often misdiagnosed because its early symptoms—like frequent urination, extreme thirst, fatigue, and nausea—overlap with common illnesses such as the flu, UTIs, and viral infections. In Colorado, over half of newly diagnosed children present in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious and preventable complication. More than 500 supporters came together for this year’s Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show—and the impact was incredible. Together, we raised nearly $382,000 through sponsorships, auctions, and community generosity.
