🧡 This Healthy Aging Month, we're celebrating the everyday moments that make life meaningful and the importance of staying well enough to enjoy them. For Dr. Justine Suba-Cohen, an Optum family medicine physician, and her mom, Julie, those moments are a reminder of why preventive care matters. As our health needs change over time, annual checkups and preventive care can help people stay healthy and continue doing the things they love at any age.

We've seen strong evidence that value-based care improves health outcomes for Medicare Advantage patients. Now, research published in The American Journal of Managed Care suggests those benefits may reach even further. Researchers, including our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ken Cohen, found that traditional Medicare patients saw better outcomes when they received care from physician groups using value-based care approaches. According to the study authors, this research is the first to show that the benefits of more coordinated and connected care may extend to a broader group of Medicare patients. Today, we remember the lives lost on 9/11 and honor the courage of first responders. As we mark the 25th anniversary, employees came together to serve their communities, reflecting the spirit of compassion and service that continues to unite us.
In recognition of the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, we are remembering and honoring those we lost, survivors and first responders through a day of service. Optum Serve employees are joining 9/11 Day Meal Pack events in New York City, Washington, DC, and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Working alongside volunteers across the country, they are helping pack millions of meals for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. We are proud to be part of an effort that supports communities and helps make a difference where we live and serve. As we come together in service, we are reminded of the power of compassion, unity and service to others, and the impact we can make when we show up for one another every day.

Value-based care is designed to help people stay healthier with more coordinated and connected care, unlike traditional fee-for-service models that pay for each visit or procedure. A JAMA Network Open study co-authored by our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ken Cohen, compared the same physician groups providing patient care under both approaches. What stood out: value-based care outperformed fee-for-service in 18 of 20 care quality and efficiency measures. Read more about the findings: optum.co/9b457e
