About us

PitchBook is the leading resource for comprehensive data, research and insights spanning the global capital markets. Our unprecedented offerings are brought to life through the PitchBook Platform, a dynamic suite of products designed to help you win. Founded in 2007, CEO John Gabbert knew that his idea for an actionable, extensive database for private equity-focused intelligence was worth pursuing. The rest is PitchBook history. Since those early days, PitchBook has expanded its coverage areas to include the entirety of the global public and private markets. We’ve added thousands of datasets and millions of individual insights into the platform, and we’ve pioneered new features and products that surface the information our clients need. We look at every day as a new opportunity to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations through helping them make informed decisions that propel their firms forward. Now part of Morningstar, PitchBook is headquartered in Seattle, London, and Singapore with additional offices in New York and San Francisco.

🎙️ North American M&A Market Update with Special Guest Kyle Walters, PitchBook BG Insights Season 3 Episode 6 In this episode, Stewart Carlin sits down with Kyle Walters of PitchBook for an update on the North American M&A market. Kyle breaks down why deal count has stayed resilient even as 2025's run of mega-deals hasn't repeated, why Energy & Infrastructure is seeing a multi-year wave of M&A tied to AI and data center demand, and how founder-owned and privately held businesses continue to account for the largest share of private equity deal sourcing. They discuss: • Why deal count has stayed elevated in 2026 even though 2025's run of $10B+ mega-deals hasn't repeated • How headline dollar-value figures can undersell a market where deals are still getting done • How AI and data center demand is driving a multi-year wave of M&A in Energy & Infrastructure, with PE chasing the physical assets behind the buildout — grids, power, servicing businesses — rather than the technology itself • Why founder-owned businesses remain the primary target for sponsors, regardless of market conditions • How PE-to-PE deals, the second largest source of activity, tend to slow when the backdrop gets more challenging • What this means for owners considering a sale in today's market Listen here: https://lnkd.in/e_ME8xHn

  • Fund sizes are shifting, talent markets are tightening, and comp structures at investment firms are under more pressure to keep pace than they have been in years. 📊 For GPs, that means live decisions on pay and carried interest design that stale benchmarks can't answer, and for LPs, banks, and advisors, it's a real signal of how firms are managing alignment and retention. 🔍 Jody Thelander (J.Thelander Consulting), Rachel Goddard (Cooley), and PitchBook's Kaidi Gao return for the Q3 2026 update to their compensation benchmarking partnership, breaking down real-time pay data by AUM, fund size, and firm type, plus fund formation and carried interest design. 💡 Register for “Insights into Investment Firm Compensation: Q3 2026 Update,” live September 23 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ePXXi3By #PrivateCapital #VentureCapital #CompBenchmarking

  • Lumonic 12.0 is here, and it's a new kind of platform: you can now direct Lumonic using plain-language instructions, and every action it takes gets logged for review, with human approval required before anything is written. The first capability built on that foundation is automated data extraction. Lumonic reads documents from portfolio companies and borrowers, pulls the data out on its own, and traces every value back to the exact page it came from. Decisions your firm makes once, like how a metric is defined or how a new line item should be treated, carry forward automatically after that, so the same reporting pack doesn't produce different numbers depending on who reviews it. Lumonic is a PitchBook company, and this is the first of several AI workflow capabilities coming to the platform over the next few months. • Get the full story on manager rankings and reported returns  📊 Standard performance rankings can obscure as much as they reveal, and reported returns often understate a fund's true volatility, a real risk for allocators relying on either to guide manager selection. In this webinar, PitchBook analysts unpack two new studies: Our Global Manager Performance Scores provide fund rankings based on track records, and our Q2 2026 Return Smoothing in Evergreen Fund Indexes, one of the first industry reports to adjust evergreen fund index returns to reveal their true volatility.  Join Hilary Wiek, CFA, CAIA, Juan Mier, CFA, and Nathan Schwartz for a practical look at what these findings mean for portfolios and manager selection. Two cities, four days, dozens of conversations about where private capital is headed next. We opened the week at IPEM Global in Paris, where the team hosted a booth and talked GPs and LPs through the two topics dominating every conversation this year: AI and MCP, and what they mean for how diligence actually gets done. Nicolas Moura, CFA, CAIA, Sr Analyst on our EMEA Private Market team, also took the stage at the Private Equity Summit to unpack the European PE macro picture using PitchBook data. The headline: fewer funds, sharper focus. European PE fundraising has slowed to 76 new funds raising €50B YTD in 2026, yet mid-market buyout funds between €1B and €5B still pulled in 52% of that capital. Day one wrapped at Caves du Louvre, where we hosted clients for our annual wine event in the heart of Paris. Meeting clients where they are in the region is always the priority. By Thursday we were back in London for the UK Private Capital Summit, with our institutional research team taking two moderating slots and the commercial team building relationships and sharing what's new on the platform. Two cities, one clear signal: private capital keeps moving, and we're moving with it. Download our Q2 2026 European PE report to read more: https://lnkd.in/eteGn86t #PrivateEquity #PrivateCapital #Europe

Megadeals fell 43.5% year-over-year in Q2, but the middle market picked up the slack, growing its share of total PE buyout value to 61.9%, up from 54.8% a year ago. 💪 Deal value still slipped to $92.4 billion, down 8.7% quarter-over-quarter. But deal count climbed 25.7%, a sign sponsors leaned into smaller, lower-risk transactions instead of sitting out. 🏗️ Exits told a tougher story. Q2 exit value dropped to $24.7 billion, the lowest level since Q2 2020, and PE's backlog of aging, hard-to-sell portfolio companies keeps building: more than $860 billion in NAV is now sitting in buyout funds held for seven-plus years. ⏱️ Thanks to our report sponsors, Stax and Insperity, for their perspectives on diligence and workforce strategy in this environment.
