A major milestone has been reached for the Central City Flood Control Project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded the construction contract for the North Bypass Channel, moving one of the project's key flood risk management features closer to construction. The approximately 3,900-foot channel will help divert floodwaters around the downtown bend of the Trinity River, helping reduce flood risk for homes, businesses, infrastructure, and communities throughout Fort Worth's Central City corridor. Construction mobilization and initial earthwork are anticipated to begin in late winter or early spring 2027. Following two public budget workshops and a public hearing, TRWD’s Board of Directors has approved the District’s FY27 budget and tax rate. The approved tax rate is $0.0273 per $100 of property valuation, supporting TRWD’s General Fund and continued investment in flood protection, Trinity Trails and other recreation assets. The FY27 budget also supports water supply operations, future water planning, and major projects underway across the District. Work is underway at Ham Branch. TRWD teams recently visited the project site, where construction is moving forward to restore nearly 2,000 feet of degraded urban stream channel and create a healthier, more natural ecosystem. Located near the I-35W and I-30 interchange, the Ham Branch Habitat Mitigation project will restore the stream and surrounding habitat while adding an upstream trash collection system to help reduce litter carried downstream. It's an important piece of the larger Central City Flood Control Project and an example of how flood risk management and environmental stewardship can work together. It was a summer of learning, exploring, and making a splash with water conservation! Throughout June, July, and August, more than 1,100 kids participated in TRWD’s youth conservation programs. Working alongside more than 20 community partners across seven customer cities, our youth educators led nearly 60 hands-on programs that made learning about water fun, interactive, and memorable. Each activity was an opportunity to help young people better understand where their water comes from, why conservation matters, and how they can play a part in protecting this important resource. The lessons learned this summer can help inspire a new generation to value, conserve, and protect our water resources. #Conservation #SaveTarrantWater #YouthPrograms #WaterIsAwesome #TRWD
