This book was ordered as part of a bundle of textbooks needed for the Fall 2012 semester. The books arrived within two days due to my Amazon Prime subscription, and were in brand new condition. I am very satisfied with my order and all of the products have been very useful in my classes this semester. I will continue to buy books from Amazon in the future!

Bordwell & Thompson endeavor to take in the sweep of world cinema, from its beginnings to the present day, in a single volume. And I'd say they succeed admirably! They introduce each chapter with a little background on the major historical and political currents of each period, which really helps to situate the films in their cultural context. I have taught with this text in Critical Film Studies at New York Film Academy, and found it to be a marvelous companion to the course, and a wellspring of great topics for discussion. The book is written in a straightforward style, and would be accessible even for non-students. Most importantly, this book helps to nurture a love of cinema, and will open doors into areas readers likely had not encountered before. Speaking for myself, after fifteen weeks with the text, I now have a much longer list of must-see movies!

If you like film, and want to learn more of the history of film, this is a good book. I would urge you to look into Film Art: An Introduction though, as this book almost adds to what you will learn from reading that. Let's say Film Art gives you a base knowledge, and Film History adds to it by taking it one step further. Let's compare it to maths and say Film Art is your addition and subtraction, and Film History is your dividing and multiplying.

There are tons of fun information and it sure opens your eyes to new movies that you might have never heard of.

The only drawback I can find is that it definitely is a tough read. It jumps a lot in time. In some chapters it jumps back and forth and it is hard to find a timeline.

Not sure if i'm supposed to review the service of who supplied it or the actual book, but both were great! the "used; like new" quality of the book did not lie. it was unopened, with no marks or bends, amazing condition. It got here within a few days too. This book is for my film history class, but it's pretty informative and easy to read.

It also has pictures.

In pretty sad condition but the book is still in tact. Has some water damage and wear but is still legible. Will do for now!

I had to purchase this book for a film appreciation class I was taking, but I ended up reading it for pleasure outside of class (and months after the class ended). Very well written, informative, and interesting!

Exactly the book I needed for class, brand new and half the price of the USED edition in the school bookstore! Other reviewers liked the book so much that they thought they would keep it way past the end of term--I think that will be the case here too. Very comprehensive and physically in great condition.

I've never had bad luck with new vendors - until now. The book was in terrible condition (for the price)- pages falling out - pages missing. The entire book was marked up by at least three previous owners - worst of all it was a special edition for Georgia State Univ. so half of the book was omitted and i was not able to follow along with the class and my instructor. I don't know if this last issue was my own fault, or an omission by the vendor. Unsatisfied.

Same review as when I ordered 'Beginning Theory' for my son's Film Production Course.

Very fast turn around. Book was in pristine condition. I was surprised as this book was considerably cheaper from this vendor (Was a large variance in price) than others so I had thought that perhaps this would be a Bangalore special where the paper quality was poor, print would be gray, dust between the pages etc. (After living in Bangalore and seeing books like this I recognise them quickly.) However this was nothing like that. Clean white pages and solid dark ink, no blurring or any other signs of an inferior print.

Excellent value and thoroughly recommended.

Le scandale est le menfoutisme avec lequel est emballé un livre de 57,88 euros, arrivé abîmé aux coins (photo), faute de protection nécessaire (bulle) vu son poids et de soin dans la fermeture et la solidité du carton d'emballage (photos) qui n'a pas résisté aux manipulations postales (colissimo).

Non retourné, car besoin immédiat. On renforcera les coins avec du papier collant, classieux!

Et on cherchera ailleurs pour les prochains achats en ligne.

Very useful as I needed this for film studies at uni and this was one of the core books I needed. Anyone interested in film will find this book very interesting. Would highly recommend.
