MEDAL ASSURED ALERT

There it is, match done, tie done. India into the semifinals and guaranteed a podium finish after beating Singapore 2-0.

There was an evitability to Anahat's win, even when she was trailing 5-7 in the first game. Like the commentators said, she's been playing like a top-10 player for quite some time now.

Asian Games Day 12 Live: Neeraj Chopra writes

Two-time Olympic medallist and two-time World Championship medal winner Neeraj Chopra had to pull out of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games due to injury. But in his absence, two Indian javelin throwers, Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh, claimed the silver and bronze in the event. After watching them medal at Nagoya, Neeraj took to LinkedIn to write a poignant post on India's javelin throw future. This is what Neeraj Chopra had to say:

As an athlete who has been around for a while, I get asked all kinds of questions and I do my best to answer every one of them. One of those has been - what will Indian javelin look like after I am done competing. Last night in Aichi-Nagoya, two very talented athletes answered that question. I was not competing, and yet, we had two Indians on the podium at the Asian Games. Watching Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh win medals made me very proud. And I know both of them can throw even further than they did last night.

When I spoke to Rohit before the event, I had told him to focus on himself and give his best. The most important thing at a major competition is to enjoy the occasion. Afterwards, he told me that though he was feeling confident, the conditions had made it difficult. I was really happy to see that he had learned from his experience at the Commonwealth Games - and to show maturity to compete strongly at the Asian Games.

When Yashvir reached out to me to wish me the best on my recovery, I had already recommended to the Federation that

he should be the one to compete in my place. It was great to see him make the most of that opportunity and finish with the best throw of his career so far.

What makes me happy the most is what this means for Indian javelin. For a second time, we have two Indian throwers on the podium at the Asian Games. Four of us throwers now have Asiad medals now, which shows that the pool is getting wider and deeper. And there is a reason for that. Javelin is an individual sport, but in many ways, I feel it is becoming like a team sport for India. We are all pushing each other, supporting each other and celebrating each other's success.

Asian Games Day 12 Live: Shooting update

Rahi Sarnobat, whose "misfire" in the women's team pistol team event led to India missing out on a medal was asked by teh Press Trust of India after arriving at IGI airport about the incident.

Sarnobat says, “I cannot say that that was a misfire, frankly. I fired all the shots, we can hear if the ammunition is not good. We can hear if the ammunition is hitting somewhere else apart from the target. Usually, we can hear that. There was no unusual sound. So, I'm not fully convinced that that was not on the target. But there are some rules to sort that out, and after all that, they have given the result that we have today…We went for review also… I am aware that I have to accept it and move forward as soon as possible because there is so much to do. There are so many competitions coming up. There is a journey ahead. I'm aware about that. But right now, my only take is that I need some time to process.”

INDIA BEAT KOREA IN ARCHERY TO ENTER FINAL

Big result for India, beating South Korea to enter the compound archery final. Beating South Korea is always massive but shouldn’t come as a surprise as India are the defending champions here. They play China for second successive gold in this event

India meet Singapore in the women's team quarterfinals. Tanvi Khanna, Anahat Singh and Joshana Chinappa, in that order, taking the court for India.

Tanvi facing Au Yeong in the opener. The winner of the tie secures a medal and it's being played on Court 1. Is that enough to earn a live stream on Sony? I'm afraid not.

At the Raipur Sports Academy in Sonepat, coach Kuldeep Singh watches from a distance as Francis Sangma of Meghalaya tries to take down Haryana’s Rohit. He would then go on and explain to Francis the right way to execute the manoeuvre. At the Chhotu Ram Stadium in Rohtak, coach Mandeep is watching Komal of Maharashtra very closely. He then shows her the right technique to hold the opponent’s leg while attacking.

Francis and Komal are two of the many aspiring wrestlers who have moved more than 1000 kms from home to pursue wrestling excellence in Haryana. The reason behind the likes of Francis, Komal and others like Vaishnavi Patil, who represented India at the World Championships last year, moving to Haryana is the unmatched legacy and quality the state boasts of in the sport.
