Nominations are now open for the position of Honorary Secretary in the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) 2026 Election.
The BOA believes that Trauma and Orthopaedics should be an inclusive surgical profession that inspires, attracts and retains the best talent from a wide variety of backgrounds. One way we can make that a reality is by ensuring we elect a Council that fully represents all our members and better reflects the population we serve.

The Honorary Secretary is an important role and one where you have the opportunity to bring your skills and expertise to help us grow and develop the BOA and Trauma and Orthopaedics as a whole.
The position will be for a three-year term and as an Officer, Trustee, and member of Council this includes attending ten executive meetings and five Council meetings per annum. Responsible for leading the Education and Training activity in the BOA, the Honorary Secretary will act as Executive Lead on the Education and Careers Committee and oversee the Congress programme. The role will officially commence in January 2027, and it is hoped, but not essential, that the successful candidate will be available from October 2026 for a handover with the current Honorary Secretary and to attend key Executive and Council meetings after Congress.

Voting members are Home Fellow, Home Member, Post-CCT, SAS Year 11+, Senior Fellow (must have previous membership with voting rights) and Honorary Fellow (must have previous membership with voting rights).
Please note, to apply for the Honorary Secretary position you must be a Voting Member and must have previously been an elected Trustee who has completed one full term.
Please note you will need the details of a Proposer and Seconder, who are Voting Members, to support your application. Please also note that in accordance with BOA Rule 9, canvassing for the election is not allowed.
