The International Republican Institute’s (IRI) team of international experts concluded its assessment of Morocco’s September 23 parliamentary elections, focusing on the Southern Provinces.   The delegation, co-led by former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker and IRI Board Member Tami Longaberger, found Election Day in the Southern Provinces was generally peaceful, orderly, and transparent, with election authorities professionally administering the process and incorporating multiple safeguards to protect its integrity.   The mission also identified key areas for improvement, including improving voter education and ballot design, implementing consistent polling procedures, and increasing protections against vote buying.   🔗 Read the full statement with preliminary findings and recommendations: https://lnkd.in/egNKdxCy

The International Republican Institute’s (IRI) delegation of international observers, co-led by former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker and IRI Board Member Tami Longaberger, arrived in Rabat today to conduct a rapid response technical assessment of Morocco’s September 23 parliamentary elections in the Southern Provinces.   The Southern Provinces are undergoing significant governance reforms and investment amid evolving electoral dynamics, offering important insight into the factors shaping political participation and competition across #Morocco.   Following the mission, IRI will release a preliminary statement of findings and a comprehensive report assessing the conduct of the elections and offering recommendations to strengthen future electoral processes.   🔗 Read more about the mission: https://lnkd.in/epsTYFcM

The International Republican Institute’s (IRI) international election observation mission to the first regular parliamentary election in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in the #Philippines has released its preliminary findings and recommendations. The election marked an important milestone in the 2014 peace process between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. IRI’s delegation, led by IRI Vice Chairman Randy Scheunemann, recognized electoral authorities for administering a technically demanding election under challenging conditions and responding quickly when serious problems arose. With government formation now pending, the mission urges all stakeholders to act responsibly, exercise restraint, and resolve disputes through established legal and institutional channels. A peaceful and orderly transition will be important to sustain confidence in democratic institutions and preserve gains in stability and self-governance. The International Republican Institute’s (IRI) delegation of international observers, led by IRI Vice Chairman Randy Scheunemann, is in Cotabato City, The Philippines this week to assess the conduct of the September 14 parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (#BARMM) 🗳️.   These elections are a key milestone in the Bangsamoro peace process.
