Lee Hsien Loong shared thisAttended the Administrative Service Dinner last night to acknowledge our public officers, celebrate the contributions of retiring leaders, and reaffirm what it means to serve Singapore. The next 60 years of our nation building journey will not be anything like the last 60. The world is changing fundamentally. It will be much harder for the Government to deliver peace, prosperity and progress for Singaporeans. There is greater risk that the virtuous cycle of good policies and good government will falter. We must work hard to sustain this virtuous cycle — by harnessing the resourcefulness of our political leaders and civil service to deliver solutions, engaging Singaporeans to contribute their energy and ideas, and strengthening the trust we share with one another. Only then can we continue to do what is right and keep Singapore safe, exceptional, and thriving for years to come. You can watch my speech here: https://lnkd.in/grm7XyHx (MDDI Photos by Chwee)

Lee Hsien Loong shared thisGlad to see Singapore Police Force officers fully using technology in their day-to-day operations during my visit to the Central Police Division on Monday. I learnt more about these tech applications up-close, including the Next Generation Fast Response Car which HTX (Home Team Science & Technology Agency) had told me about last December (go.gov.sg/jvpvtt). In an era when the modus operandi of criminals is rapidly evolving, the SPF must quickly move into advanced tech to stay a few steps ahead. It is the only way to prevent, deter and detect crime, and keep the public safe and secure. Thank you to all our police officers for embracing technology and innovation to keep Singapore crime free! Lee Hsien Loong shared this“However busy, you should read.” A short essay I wrote for Warren Fernandez’s, “What We Read, and Why”. No matter how busy we are, I hope we can all find the time, energy, and bandwidth to make reading a habit, as I have tried to do. In today’s fast-changing world, how do we cope with the constant flow of information? Misinformation, too, can influence actions and impact societies in ways that are hard to undo. Reading teaches us how to think clearly in the middle of chaos. It is not just about gaining facts – it helps us to consider different perspectives, question assumptions and biases, and more importantly, form our own views rather than relying on others to interpret the world for us. Over the years, I have tried to set aside time for reading, to learn new things, refresh my intellectual capital, and keep my ideas up to date. It is not always easy, but it is always worthwhile. Warren’s book features essays from leaders across political, business, media and the community. Do give it a read if you can. What’s your favourite book, and why do you read? Share your recommendations and what reading means to you in the comments.

Lee Hsien Loong shared thisHad a great visit to Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) — a campus that comes alive at night! Many SUSS students are working professionals, each with their own admirable story. They put in time and effort to study, on top of their career, family responsibilities, and self-care needs. They make many sacrifices along the way, from meeting up on weekends for project work to pushing through long days and evenings. In the end, they come out stronger. Spoke to some of them and saw how resilient they were. They see SUSS as a place filled with opportunities, where they can build on their industry experience and reinvent themselves mastering fields they are passionate about, such as social work — for which SUSS has recently set up a new school. The faculty is doing good work too, supporting students through different life circumstances, and offering them flexibility, especially in managing their time and modules, so they can continue to learn, even when life events intervene. My last visit was seven years ago, and the university has grown rapidly since then. I wish SUSS all the best as it prepares for its new consolidated campus near Bugis. May it reach greater heights in its mission of promoting lifelong learning in the social sciences and contributing to social good. (MDDI Photos by Chwee)

Lee Hsien Loong shared thisFollowing my talk to the Economic Society of Singapore last year (go.gov.sg/m62syg), I wrote an essay “Microeconomics in Public Policy: A Practitioner's View”. It has been published in the Singapore Economic Review journal. A core responsibility of any government is to grow and sustain a well-functioning economy. The theories on how to do so are well-studied. They go all the way back to Adam Smith, who described how self-interest and free markets can yield good economic outcomes. Smith’s idea of the “invisible hand” remains very relevant today. But societies are now far more complex, and Governments have to balance economic growth with other important policy goals and considerations. My essay discusses how and why the Singapore Government has applied economic principles and market incentives systematically across many public policies, e.g. our HDB programme and CDC Voucher scheme. This approach works with human nature, rather than against it. The better we understand and make use of powerful economic forces, the more effectively we can achieve not only economic but also social and political goals. In particular, we have found three practical rules of thumb useful: i) When designing and implementing policies, use economic principles and market forces; ii) When allocating a scarce resource, just price it; and iii) When providing assistance, cash or cash-like is better. The results - in terms of economic growth, equity, social cohesion and quality of public services – show that this way to improve the lives of our people works. Lee Hsien Loong shared thisThankful that the first repatriation flight from Muscat, Oman has landed safely, bringing fellow Singaporeans home. Heartfelt thanks to our officers for making this happen. It was a whole-of-government effort. Ministry of Foreign Affairs officers in Singapore and our overseas missions, including those deployed as Crisis Response Teams, worked closely with counterparts from the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, and other agencies to make the arrangements and support this effort. Thanks also to our consular and embassy teams, the flight crew, and everyone who has been working round the clock to help Singaporeans return home safely. Our thoughts remain with those whose loved ones have not yet returned. MFA will be mounting a second flight tomorrow and will continue reaching out to Singaporeans in affected areas, while also organising assisted overland trips for Singaporeans elsewhere in the Middle East. Our officers are working hard under challenging conditions, to ensure the safety and security of Singaporeans. – LHL (MFA Photo)

Lee Hsien Loong shared thisThe Budget Debate concluded today. In his round-up speech, PM Lawrence Wong responded to the issues raised, and outlined how the Government will prepare Singapore for an uncertain and demanding global environment. Over the past few days, MPs discussed a wide range of issues affecting Singaporeans, including economic opportunities, cost pressures, social mobility, AI adoption and worker support, the use of our fiscal surplus, and our long-term fiscal sustainability. #SGBudget2026 is the first Budget in this term of Government, as we enter a post-SG60 phase in our nation-building journey. The challenges ahead are significant, but Singapore possesses strong fundamentals built up over generations through careful choices and collective effort. Hence we can face the future with confidence, continue creating opportunities for our people, and build a stronger and more resilient Singapore together. – LHL Ministry of Finance (Singapore) (Photo by me)

Lee Hsien Loong shared thisThe Government is focussed on helping Singaporeans navigate this complex and uncertain global environment. As the world changes, we will keep Singapore economically attractive, create jobs for our people, support them to realise their potential, and enable them to age well in their golden years. Most of all, we will strengthen our shared values and keep fresh the ideals that make us a united, multicultural and multi-religious country. Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong has set out plans to refresh our economic strategy and strengthen our workers, businesses and families. This Budget will prepare us to navigate the challenges and seize new opportunities ahead. #SGBudget2026 reaffirms our commitment to support every Singaporean as we continue building our Singapore together. Lee Hsien Loong shared thisHad a good meeting yesterday with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Core Group during their visit to Singapore. Singapore and the CII share a longstanding partnership – one that has deepened industry and people-to-people ties since the CII Core Group began its annual visits here in 1993. Through sustained dialogue, business collaboration, and youth exchanges, the CII has contributed to the growing cooperation between Singapore and India. We discussed recent global and regional developments and ways to further advance our cooperation, bilaterally and with our region. I wish the CII Core Group a fruitful visit in Singapore. Local Development Companies Network

Our first panel of the #LDCNSummit set the tone for two days of reflection, dialogue, and collaboration. Moderated by John Feerick, CEO of Sligo LEADER Partnership Company CLG, the discussion brought together: • Minister Jerry Buttimer, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, and at the Department of Transport • Maggie Woods,Programme Coordinator, Galway City Partnership • Sabina Trench, CEO, South West Mayo Development Company • Máirín Ó Cuireáin, CEO, Local Development Companies Network Together, the panel explored how Local Development Companies (LDCs) contribute to community, society, and the economy, and how we can plan for the years ahead to ensure the sector is in an even stronger position by 2030. The central theme of this panel discussion was integrated services - the idea that by housing a range of complementary programmes and services within one community-based organisation, the total becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The panel discussed how the work of Local Development Companies touches on every part of people's lives and how, because of their integrated structure, the focus shifts from programmes and services to the people and communities that are at the very centre of their work. 👏 A big thank-you to Minister Buttimer, our moderator, and panellists for opening the conference with insight, optimism, and vision for the future of local development. 🔗 Learn more about the Local Development Companies Network and Summit 2030 here: https://lnkd.in/eKTBTKKS #LDCNSummit2030 #Community #Society #Economy #LocalDevelopment #Leadership #Ireland2030 #RuralDevelopment #SocialInclusion

ASEAN’s response to crisis is often seen as slow or limited. But this view overlooks how the region actually manages tension. Beyond its formal processes, another layer of diplomacy often shapes outcomes in moments of crisis. NAPEI welcomes the government's strong commitment to education, as outlined in the 13MP. Our Deputy President, Dr Teh Choon Jin, shared with #TheSun news that while the allocation is impressive, the real challenge lies in how effectively these reforms are implemented. Key priorities include: 🎯Stronger support for schools and teachers, especially in rural areas 🎯Compulsory preschool access for all 🎯STEM and AI education for a future-ready generation 🎯Empowering the National Education Council with real oversight authority We echo the call for collaboration across sectors to ensure no child is left behind and that reforms deliver lasting, measurable impact. ASEAN is no longer just a co-working space for great powers — it needs institutional gravity to shape rules, not just signal legitimacy. Ng Sze Fung argues that while demand for ASEAN’s role is high, visibility alone doesn’t translate into leverage. Without disciplined rule-making and authoritative frameworks, ASEAN’s geopolitical influence will remain thin. #ASEAN #Geopolitics #Regionalism #Malaysia #InternationalRelations 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gtd__3w7

GAIP Advisory Council member Dennis Tan, CFP® Tan has long envisioned GAIP as a platform for collective action—bringing together industry, policymakers, regulators, and academia to deliver impact at scale. As recognition grows that closing protection gaps is vital for both economic resilience and societal well-being, GAIP has developed an Integrated Framework—a holistic, adaptive approach that unites risk reduction, insurance solutions, and financial instruments to drive real-world outcomes. This approach is supported by GAIP’s Asia Risk Platform—an online platform comprising a risk database, risk assessment tools, and a knowledge repository of solutions. Currently under development, the platform will support public-sector stakeholders in better understanding risk exposures and identifying actionable pathways to strengthen resilience. We thank our partners and look forward to working together to turn risk into resilience, for a safer, better-protected Asia and beyond.
