Sign the petition today & together let’s Speak Up for Autism. 🌈⭐: https://lnkd.in/eAW38EKi Speech Therapy is failing autistic children & 100s of lived experience stories have shown this to be true - change is long overdue. 💔 Autistic individuals deserve specific Speech Therapy sessions to support their communication styles, needs & preferences which is currently just not happening over & over again. This is devastating for autistic individuals & their families which affects mental health, life chances, education, connections & overall happiness to name just a few. This campaign calls to make additional autism-specific training mandatory for all prospective & practising NHS Speech Therapists. The training would ensure autistic individuals have their specific Speech, Language & Communications needs met & give Speech Therapists the confidence to recommend, refer & support an autistic individual’s communication needs. Daniel Ferguson shared thisTwo years ago my youngest, Elliot, was 6 years old, and essentially couldn't talk. Severe speech delay essentially making him non-verbal, with #autism and #ADHD as well. An incredibly intelligent young person who would bang his head with frustration because his brain was so busy with thoughts he couldn't communicate. Three years of weekly private speech and language therapy. Two years of using an NHS prescription #talker (an iPad with speech software, also known as #AAC). Now he talks. All the time. Its carefully thought through, and not always perfect, but we communicate continually, and verbally. He doesn't bang his head, his school work is accelerating, and people who know him are amazed at his progress. This is the power of high quality speech therapy and access to AAC, and unfortunately, the NHS aren't funded to provide it. I'm certain that without this, he'd not be talking today, and it scares me to think that he might still be banging his head. The normal approach to speech therapy is very occasional visits to school, in the hope that already stretched teachers will shoulder the burden of the therapy. What makes this extra cruel is that a child must demonstrate an ability to communicate before being considered for AAC, which is extremely difficult to do without the therapy. Elliots speech massively accelerated with AAC. The UK must do better. Everyone deserves the opportunities that Elliot has had, and I'm so grateful to be able to hear his voice. Daniel Ferguson posted thisFeeling really frustrated with Bedford Borough Council today. My 14-year-old #autistic son is bright, thoughtful, and well behaved when properly supported, but he just cannot cope in a mainstream classroom. At the moment he’s only being offered a couple of hours a day at school on a reduced timetable, in an autism provision that sends him home for being bored, with no clear plan or strategy to help him do more. At the start of term, they removed his only means of regulation and made no real attempt to replace it. They also cannot educate him to GCSE level unless he attends mainstream lessons - which he simply cannot cope with. He's barely doing a lesson a day. We’re working with the local authority to find him a different setting, but it honestly feels like there is nothing in Bedford Borough for children like him: intelligent, well-behaved, but unable to manage a mainstream class. That feels like a huge gap in provision. As parents, looking ahead and realising he could get to the end of Year 11 without any GCSEs, it’s hard not to feel like the system is failing him. Does anyone know of any settings in or around #Bedford that might be suitable - ideally somewhere able to provide GCSEs in a quiet, calm, structured environment? Daniel Ferguson reposted thisDaniel Ferguson reposted thisI have never had a year like 2025 for meeting extraordinary people whose counsel I took, and who changed my path. There were almost too many to count but a few of the most special were: 1. Sarah de Lagarde, who survived being run over by two tube trains, losing her right arm and right leg, yet returned to work in asset management, as positive as ever, while taking Transport for London to court for failing to monitor the CCTV that would have saved her. 2. Darren Buttrick, a leader from BT Group and possibly the first person in Covid to come out of an ICU alive, having been given 15 minutes to phone friends and family before surgery expected to kill him (and who also phoned his boss) 3. Martha Lane Fox, whose near death car accident broke 28 bones in her body, and was hospitalised for 2 years, who told me how a colleague took to standing up to stretch in Board meetings so it wouldn’t seem so odd when she needed to do the same 4. Stephanie Leung, who used her experience of caring for her parents whilst holding down a series of senior executive roles, to found KareHero, a firm which helps employers support employees struggling to navigate the byzantine care system to get support for their loved ones 5. Sir Richard Branson, who took time out of his winter break on Necker Island, to share with me his experience of dyslexia, and the story of not knowing the difference between net and gross profit, which he said leaders shouldn’t worry too much about!! There are several things that seemed to me to link these people: Work matters - it brings purpose and happiness Resilience abounds - as they pick the mselves up from a life changing situation Willingness to be different - creating “a new normal”, as Richard Branson did with his “dyslexic thinking” skill on LinkedIn And most of all, they are great storytellers. And stories change hearts. I listened in awe to all of them talk about their roots, their disability or situation, and how that gave them an idea for change, a way to empower others to gain from all they had learned. Disability affects people in very different ways, and generalisation is dangerous, but the “lived experience” of disability does have the power to create capabilities that many non-disabled people would never expect to see. I started 2025 asking people to “see the ability, not the disability” and I spent much of the year doing just that. I would love 2026 to be a year where we all look at those of us who are “differently abled” to see what we CAN do, not what we CAN’T. Kate Nash OBE 🟣 Leigh Smyth FRSA Katy Talikowska Grant Feller

I ❤️ Nurole. Oliver Cummings and his podcast series #Entertheboardroom are excellent. Today Nurole sent me the role of Chair of Mind. Mind is a leading voice in Mental Health. Daniel Ferguson shared thisThis month, 20 years ago, I failed to solve a simultaneous equation presented to me by Richard M.. It was my first job interview out of university, and luckily I still got the job. Thanks Rich. My journey in Mobile and Telco started, with a baptism of fire in operations with T-Mobile UK. It was noteworthy for me, as Guv Bains was my manager, and Guv didn’t interview me – he trusted his team so much, and the team cohesion was so important to him, that the team’s perspective was all he needed. I wasn’t diagnosed #autistic back then, but I was really lucky, as it didn’t matter. Guv allowed me to be myself and gave me an environment that allowed me to thrive, focusing on me as an individual. Transitioning through T-Mobile UK, into EE, and then into BT, from mobile operations into security, with a brief pit stop managing the CTO office, 20 years later I’m in a role that I love, in a UK company with one of the biggest possible impacts, working with an incredibly talented and invested team to keep our customers and services safe. I’m very grateful to everyone that’s had an impact on me over those years. I’ve been blessed with incredible leaders and managers and teams – I won’t name them all but every single one has been genuinely awesome, and I’ve learnt so much. Thank you all. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 20 years brings.

It has been 26 years since a young MsC student from Swansea University walked into BT Labs at Martlesham Heath, without knowing the amazing world that was about to open up in front of her. Over this last quarter of a century (OMG), I have grown both as a professional and as a person, I have had the privilege of working with and learning from incredible colleagues, been supported by outstanding leaders, and learned from successes and, importantly, from mistakes. I am deeply proud of so many parts of this business, but allow me to highlight BT's amazing #AppliedResearch department, the incredible place that is #AdastralPark and our #BTTechFellowship community, all so close to my heart. You will all continue to do great things, I am sure, for the business, for the wider telecoms industry, and for society. Please do stay in touch, I will share news on next steps when the time is right.

As the parents of an autistic, non-speaking 6 year old, who proudly communicates via an AAC - we celebrate everything & love all that communication brings! Picture the scene: Ethan wanted (more) Easter chocolate & we were at that point in the day when Banana or Raisins would be a good idea as a snack instead. 😅 Ethan communicated “Easter Egg” I said “You’ve probably had enough chocolate today, do you want a Banana instead?”, Ethan sighed & said “Finished” via his AAC. I said “How about raisins?” Ethan said “Finished” again, rolled his eyes & pressed “I want Mini Puffs” & gave me a hopeful look. Mini Puffs it is! 🤣 A little AAC compromise.

🔒 The end of an era for UK cyber collaboration 🔒 This November marks the official decommissioning of the National Cyber Security Centre CiSP (Cyber Security Information Sharing Partnership) platform after more than a decade of service. Launched in 2013 by CERT-UK, CiSP was a pioneering initiative to bring together government, industry, and academia in a trusted environment for sharing cyber threat intelligence. At the time, it was one of the first large-scale attempts in the UK to create a secure, collaborative community where organisations could exchange real-time insights on threats, vulnerabilities and general cyber best practice. Over the years, CiSP has: ✅ Brought together thousands of members from across critical national infrastructure, business, academia and public sector. ✅ Facilitated early warnings and alerts that helped prevent attacks. ✅ Built a culture of collaboration over competition in cyber defence. ✅ Shaped thinking on how government and industry can work together against evolving threats. I’m proud to have played a part in this journey as the Service Owner for CiSP during its CERT-UK days and through the early years of the NCSC. It was a privilege to help establish and grow the platform that encouraged trust and collaboration at a time when information sharing in cyber security was still in its infancy. Seeing CiSP evolve and support organisations across the UK remains a highlight of my career. Of course, technology and the threat landscape have moved on. The NCSC is now investing in newer, more advanced platforms and approaches to information sharing that reflect today’s scale, speed, and complexity. But for many of us, CiSP will always represent a turning point and proof that trust, collaboration, and community are just as important in cyber security as firewalls and encryption. 👋 Thank you to everyone who contributed, shared, and learned through CiSP over the years. Its legacy lives on in the partnerships and practices it inspired. So on the 28th November I shall be finding a bar, in the Whitehall area, to make a toast and say farewell to the CiSP platform.

But you also can’t defend what you don’t 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱. 🔐 A powerful share from Tom Read on the piece by Ollie W. at the National Cyber Security Centre, exploring why observability and threat hunting are now inseparable pillars of national resilience. 👉 Observability gives us visibility. 👉 Threat hunting gives us curiosity and context. It is really surprising how many cybersecurity professionals in the UK & in Gibraltar here on LinkedIn have not read, fully understood, or meaningfully integrated the principles of the Computer Misuse Act 1990 into their cyber practices. So, let’s break it down for vulnerability researchers and penetration testers. - The Computer Misuse Act 1990 (CMA) criminalises unauthorised access to computer systems. Full stop, and regardless of intent. This means that even well-meaning actions, such as scanning, probing, or reporting a vulnerability without explicit permission, can violate the law. There is no public interest defense written into the CMA, and intent to improve security does not exempt individuals from liability. - For vulnerability researchers, discovering a flaw in a system and responsibly disclosing it, without having a formal agreement or being invited to do so, can still be considered unauthorised access. Whilst I agree, this legal uncertainty discourages good-faith research and weakens the overall resilience of digital infrastructure in the UK, the law still applies. The Automobile industry has weaponised this for years. - For penetration testers, without a clear, signed scope of engagement and documented authorisation from the system owner, even routine activities like port scanning or exploiting a known vulnerability for demonstration can constitute an offence under the Act. In short: no contract, no testing. Understanding the CMA isn't optional. It’s foundational to ethical and legal security practices in the UK. Whether you're red teaming, bug hunting, or building secure infrastructure, knowing where the legal lines are, and ensuring your work stays on the right side of them, is not just good practice. It’s essential for protecting yourself, your clients, and the profession as a whole. You only need one of these companies to go after you, and it is game over. Does it need an update? Hell yes. Does that mean it does not apply? Hell no.

After years of work, we have decent security standards, but we'll continue to struggle until we adopt security by default. Take the relationship between TLS 1.2 and 1.3, for example. Both protocols can provide reasonable security, but TLS 1.2 supports a kitchen sink of options, and you need to know what you're doing to configure it correctly. TLS 1.3, on the other hand, just works, no further work needed. This is just one example; there are dozens of standards and situations for everyone to consider when it comes to their network infrastructure. Until we get security by default, the only way to stay ahead is to have comprehensive configuration monitoring to catch problems and drift. I created Hardenize to solve exactly this problem. Our free test is still available at hardenize.com, and the commercial product has been rolled into Red Sift's. Now that Mail Check and Web Check are being retired, I am very happy that there is still a way for Hardenize to continue to serve.
