Giulia Sale reposted thisGiulia Sale reposted thisLast week, Plexal hosted a workshop to understand how technology can help end violence against women and girls (VAWG) as part of our ongoing work with Transport for London (TfL). Violence against women and girls remains an area with limited proven detection capability. This project shows that responsible innovation, grounded in privacy, ethics and operational reality, can help bridge that gap and create credible pathways toward safer journeys. After reviewing more than 100 suppliers, six were invited to a demo day at Plexal HQ and assessed against a framework covering technical capability, privacy and compliance and real‑world feasibility. This approach moved beyond high‑level discussion and allowed TfL to test practicality, privacy and operational fit across a diverse set of suppliers. Key takeaways from the day include: 🤝 Strong alignment across TfL and suppliers that privacy, ethics and operational reality must lead any deployment. ⚖️ Balancing innovation with operational reality and specific insight around the topic of violence against women and girls is essential. ⏱️ The fastest progress will come from supporting investigations after incidents. Longer term, once confidence and controls are in place, this can evolve into earlier detection and prevention. 🧪 The consensus was to take things step-by-step, starting with lab testing before moving into real‑world use. The insights from this workshop will inform the next phase of our programme, helping us to support TfL in identifying suitable partners to collaboratively co‑develop and trial potential solutions focused on detecting violence against women and girls. Giulia Sale shared thisAmber and I launched TABOO PAGES for two reasons: 1. We both love reading, and we got tired of discussing with each other; we thought more people should be having these conversations. 2. Considering what is happening around us, critical thinking is important now more than ever. I'd love to connect if: 👉 You'd like to join our book club! 👉 You're an author, or about to be. 👉 You're the founder of a mission-driven venture. 👉 You run a community and want to collaborate.
-
Giulia Sale shared thisAmber and I were discussing 'The Courage To Be Disliked', which is a great book! And then we turned around to each other once we realised... There are two women depicted in the book: One of them has a problem of blushing too much, and her biggest problem is the fear of speaking to a boy she likes. The other wants to be in a relationship, but she can't find a partner. While men's problems are about careers and deep philosophical issues. The purpose of TABOO PAGES is not to demonise books like this, but to open up discussions on how these books represent society nowadays. The goal is to spark critical thinking and get minds thinking outside of social norms. 👉 Shoot me a message if you want to join us!

Giulia Sale shared thisI've been working on a few things behind the scenes, again! The goal: support in building a world that is designed with everyone in mind. Being an athlete myself, I want to start by making movement accessible for all. These are a few non-profit projects and for-profit concepts that I'll be working on (slowly and carefuly) over the next few years: 👉 Collaboration with [COMING SOON] to build outdoor gyms that are more accessible to women. 👉 A fitness and movement studio designed with women in mind. 👉 Writing a book on what it felt like growing up with a narcissist and abusive parent who built his career and life by putting other people down and making women feel horrible about themselves. 👉 Supporting mission-driven innovation so that we build a better world not only for the founders, but for their end users. The first small step in making all of these happen is TABOO PAGES. TABOO PAGES is challenging the status quo in an age when AI and mass media threaten our critical thinking. We invite people to think, challenge, and question our systems, societal norms, and assumptions through reading and safe discussions. This is how you can join us: 👉 Book discussions Every month we discuss a book that brings up different themes, such as feminism, women's health and the medical system, philosophy, traditional novels, financial shame, death, sex & pleasure. Link for our community chat in the comments. 👉 Everyone can join This is not a women-only book club. Everyone is welcomed and we actually urge EVERYONE to join and discuss these important topics (that will shape our future) together. 👉 Supporting mission-driven innovation Taboo Pages offers a community and a space open to trying, sharing and supporting mission-driven solutions. We’re happy to share your products and services if you need beta testers or focus groups. We also promote businesses that align with our values. If you're building something that aligns, get in touch! 👉 Collaboration We're looking to collaborate with like-minded communities and businesses to support the growth of our mission. Slide into my DMs if you're doing something cool. Giulia Sale liked thisGiulia Sale liked thisGood news! If you want to engage in human trafficking, violence against women and girls, and grifting, you have a home on Substack! That’s right, in the face of Andrew Tate joining the platform (and rising as high as #2 in NEWS, yes NEWS), substack CEO Chris Best COO Hamish McKenzie and CTO Jairaj Sethi have remained completely silent. But they are gladly accepting the percentage of revenue they get from those who fall victim to Tate’s grifts and cons. Why go to Switzerland for shadow banking when Silicon Valley will happily do it for you? Not only that, but Tate, the scam artist, grifter, and abuser of women and men, made it as high as the #2 Rising publication in the News category. Yes, NEWS. Make the Substack founders, Chris Best, Jairaj Sethi, and Hamish McKenzie, synonymous with harm, because if you can spot the differences between them and the bankers who enabled Jeffrey E., you have better vision than me.

Giulia Sale liked thisGiulia Sale liked thisThree years ago (ish) Victorine Lançon strolled into Daya Ventures and changed the trajectory of the company forever. We hadn't raised yet and literally couldn't afford to pay anyone (not even ourselves), but she still wanted to join the team even if we had nothing to offer. I'd say that makes her our actual first investor, because she bet a lot of her time and personal finance on the success of this slightly crazy endeavour that is Daya. Now she's our full-time Chief Communications Officer (and yes she's both salaried and has equity), which means she basically built her own job. and she definitely built a lot of Daya. She's the only one on the team younger than myself, and sometimes I'm just flabbergasted (fav word) by how skilled she is at such a young age. It's ridiculous. I have to fend people of trying to steal her weekly. She's also become one of the people I treasure the most in my life, professionally and personally. She makes my life so much easier AND so much more fun. Building a startup is insanity. Building 5 per year is.. I don't even know but it's not for the faint of heart at least. So you need to do it alongside people who let's you keep your sanity. who carries the weight with you and laughs with you through the rollercoaster. She hates sappy declarations like this so I'll probably get another text to feature in part #2 of this little series once she sees it. I hope all founders gets a first hire like her 💜

🎙️ From the frontline of medicine to building one of the UK’s fastest-growing HealthTech companies – our Founder & CEO Dr. Ben Maruthappu joined Julia Hoggett, CEO of the London Stock Exchange, as a guest on its thought-provoking #BeInspired series, to share the story behind Cera. Released during London Tech Week, their conversation couldn’t have been more relevant to this year’s theme of ‘Tech in the Age of AI’. Ben and Julia explored: 🔹 The inequality in healthcare that sparked the idea for Cera. 🔹 Why AI and data should support – not replace – human care. 🔹 And the importance of scaling impact – not just scale for scale’s sake. With an ageing population, rising demand, and chronic workforce shortages, there has never been a more urgent time for healthcare innovators to take the leap into entrepreneurship. 🚀 Cera was founded to help tackle exactly that – and every decision since has been about delivering better, faster, more accessible care. 🫶 🔗 Watch the full episode: https://lseg.group/3Fvy2u0 LSEG #Leadership #Cera #LondonStockExchange #LondonTechWeek #LTW

📣 VCs! Does your deal flow funnel look a bit..... homogenous? With only 2% of UK VC funding going to all-female teams and less than 0.5% going to black founders - and nearly half of all capital going to companies based in London - we thought we would put together a few suggestions based on recommendations from reports looking at increasing diversity at the top of the funnel. If your top of funnel isn’t diverse, it’s rarely because diverse founders don’t exist. It’s because many quietly self-select out. A few practical ways to widen the funnel: 🗣️ Use inclusive, specific language (clarity beats vague “exceptionalism”) 🚪 Be accessible with clear contact routes, open applications or office hours 📜 Signal commitment (e.g. Investing in Women Code, Diversity VC certification) 👭 Diversify sourcing beyond the usual universities, networks and accelerators 👥 Build balance into teams, panels and visible moments 🧰 Offer support beyond capital at the top of the funnel 📊 Track who enters your funnel and make DEI part of how you operate You don’t need to lower standards — you need to remove unnecessary friction. You can’t invest in founders you never meet. Full piece here: https://lnkd.in/eDwsgWf7 With thanks to the Invest in Women Hub, Invest in Women Taskforce, Diversity VC, UK Private Capital, European Women in VC, Level 20, Extend Ventures, The Table, Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund, Ada Ventures, Astia, Alma Angels, Social Mobility Ventures, Bethnal Green Ventures, Unconventional Ventures, Sie Ventures, Black Seed VC, Startup Discovery School, Climate Mosaic, Women in Cleantech and Sustainability, Sophie Purdom and Ramsay Siegal for your research, support and leadership. #VC #Cleantech #Climatetech #ZeroCarbon #Diversity #Inclusion

In the UK, we’re often hesitant about selling. There’s a cultural discomfort with it as if being direct about value is something to be avoided. But in business, selling isn’t optional… it’s essential. Every founder needs to learn how to sell. Not just how to talk about a product, but how to position it, how to create urgency and how to communicate its value clearly and confidently. Because no matter how good your product is, it means nothing if no one knows about it. Visibility is just as important as quality. You can have the best product in the market but if you can’t convince people to care, it won’t go anywhere. Selling isn’t just being pushy it’s a skill. And it’s one every successful entrepreneur inevitably masters, whether selling to customers or investors.

If you are a healthcare… • 7K followers
I’ve worked with some of the fastest growing private clinics and healthcare brands in the UK over the past 5 years. Here are the 3 things that we focus on most with their marketing and sales systems: 1. Mindset Changes The ‘boring’ stuff. Most people need to think differently about sales and marketing in order to have any success, especially in healthcare. Have you tried to convince a doctor that it’s okay to follow up?! 2. Data is everything Marketing and sales can be fun and creative, but it also relies heavily on data and not on vibes. If you want to make a big change to your marketing process, you need a data-backed reason to 3. Healthcare is not different (and it is) Healthcare still requires the same principles with marketing that are true across all other industries, whether you’re targeting patients or other doctors… But, patients and doctors are audiences that require a nuanced approach. Both of these statements are true.

Beyond the Diagnosis: A Founder's Perspective on Resilience and Follow-Up Care In a candid video from the iconic Refuge building in Manchester, our founder shares a crucial, often overlooked element of the cancer journey: the emotional toll of the waiting period between check-ups, scans, and tests. His honesty highlights a significant, long-term challenge for men's health advocacy: maintaining resilience and support throughout the follow-up process. This vulnerability underscores the mission of our campaigns, Ball Tampering Allowed and Lads and Dads vs. Cancer: to shift the culture surrounding men’s health from avoidance to proactivity and open dialogue. Key Takeaway for our Network: Health is a continuous priority: For every man in your organisation, the importance of routine checks (especially for prostate and testicular cancer) cannot be overstated. Support is critical: The time between medical appointments is often the most stressful. Let's ensure our workplace and social circles foster a supportive environment. A huge thanks to everyone supporting our cause and enabling the necessary conversations. #LadsAndDadsVsCancer #MensHealth #CancerAwareness #BallTamperingAllowed #CorporateWellbeing #Leadership #Christies

Selected startups will receive hands-on support across: • Product positioning and messaging • Go-to-market strategy • Tech PR and media outreach • Pitch deck refinement • Branding and narrative development • Product design • UX/UI optimisation This is structured, senior-level input across both marketing and product experience. Not surface-level advice. In exchange, we ask for case study rights and a collaborative working relationship. We’re looking to work with ambitious pre-seed to Series A founders who want to sharpen how their product looks, feels, and goes to market. If that’s you, message us directly.

Clerkenwell Health • 4K followers
Four years ago, Clerkenwell Health was just an idea - born from a frustration with the status quo in mental health research and a belief that the UK could do better. Today, I’m incredibly proud to share that we’ve launched our third clinical trial site, in partnership with @RDaSH NHS Foundation Trust. This new site in Doncaster represents more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a first-of-its-kind NHS-private model for delivering commercial mental health and CNS trials - built around patient access, NHS infrastructure, and commercial execution. From the beginning, our vision was to transform how neuro and psychiatric research is done in the UK. Not just for sponsors, but for patients who need better treatment options, and for an NHS system rich with potential to contribute more directly to innovation. This partnership delivers on that vision - and does so in a way that’s scalable, sustainable, and rooted in real-world care. It shows what’s possible when the public and private sectors work together, and it benefits everyone involved: - Patients get access to novel treatments - NHS builds research capacity - Sponsors can run efficient trials in trusted settings - Communities benefit through local investment and revitalisation And we’re just getting started. Clerkenwell is growing. We’re already working to bring more partnerships like this into the ecosystem - across more regions, more sites and more trials. Thank you to everyone at RDaSH, @Business Doncaster and Clerkenwell, and our broader network who helped bring this vision to life. Onwards. Huge shout out to Heather Rice, Bridie Rowbotham, Mehul Vaghani, Alexander Dochery, Arda Ozcubukcu and everyone else without whom we couldn't have launched this. #MentalHealth #CNSResearch #ClinicalTrials #NHS #Innovation #PublicPrivatePartnership #UKLifeSciences #Doncaster #ClerkenwellHealth #ClinicalResearch
