Jon Ryley shared thisWalking, Transformation and Alignment On Easter Saturday I went for a walk across the Lancashire Plain with Andy Marr . Someone I first met over a year ago through LHH Outplacement, when his coach asked me to spend some time advising him on his business model. Until now, we’d never actually met in person. A few hours walking. No slides. No agenda. Just conversation. And as often happens on walks, things became clearer. In business, we talk a lot about transformation. Strategy decks. Operating models. Technology programmes. But real transformation rarely happens in meeting rooms. It happens in alignment. Alignment between people. Alignment between intent and action. Alignment between what we say and what we actually do. Walking strips things back. No hierarchy. No titles. No noise. Just two people moving in the same direction, step by step. And that’s what transformation actually requires. Not big announcements. Not bursts of activity. But consistent movement. Shared understanding. And honest conversations along the way. I’m working with a business at the moment that’s very direct. By UK standards, it feels blunt. But it works. No ambiguity. No guessing. Everyone knows what matters and what happens next. That’s the shift. Clarity is leadership. Be direct, without being rude. Be clear, without being cold. Be specific, without over-controlling. Because unclear leaders create unclear teams. And unclear teams don’t perform. Make clarity non-negotiable — and watch what changes.

You read the terrain, set your line, and commit to the next step with intent. At the base, everything looks overwhelming, just like a complex deal. But you break it down, build momentum, adjust to conditions, and keep moving forward. Doubt creeps in, conditions change, people drop off, but those who stay focused, pace it right, and keep belief reach the summit. Same in sales. Because if we’re here — on this rock — in this moment… Then what we do actually matters. How we lead. How we treat people. How we show up when it’s hard. That’s the game. Not perfection. Not control. But perspective. The best leaders I’ve worked with understand this. They move with urgency… But not panic. They care deeply… But don’t get lost in noise. They build things that last… Because they know time is finite. So next time things feel heavy… Zoom out. You’re on a rock, spinning through space. And you’ve still got a chance to do something meaningful on it. For the light.

We’ve gone from: ➡️ Headcount-driven growth ➡️ Activity-based selling ➡️ CRM as a reporting tool To: ➡️ System-led growth ➡️ Signal-based engagement ➡️ AI-powered execution ⸻ The old model looked like this: More SDRs More AEs More dashboards And somehow... still not enough pipeline. The new model is different. Smaller teams. Better data. Faster decisions. AI handling: • Targeting • Personalisation • First touch • Workflow orchestration So your best people can actually sell. This is the shift: From volume → precision From effort → leverage From tools → systems The organisations getting this right aren’t hiring more people... They’re building GTM engines. High trust. High-quality data. High-speed execution. That’s the difference. If you’re still scaling sales by adding headcount, you’re solving a 2020 problem in a 2026 market.

Over the years, I’ve noticed something that separates people who move forward from those who stay stuck. It’s not just talent, connections, or even timing. It’s belief. Not blind optimism, but a quiet conviction that something better is possible and worth pursuing. Most people dismiss the idea of “miracles” because they associate it with luck or chance. In business and in life, I’ve found it’s far more practical than that. What you expect shapes how you act. How you act determines what you see. And what you see ultimately defines the opportunities you take. When you start expecting better outcomes, you make sharper decisions. You notice openings others ignore. You put yourself in rooms you would have avoided before. From the outside, it may look like things are “falling into place,” but in reality, you’ve positioned yourself to recognise and act on them. That is what most people call a miracle. But none of it happens if you sit back and wait. Expectation without action is just wishful thinking. The real shift comes when belief is paired with movement. When you decide to show up differently, think differently, and hold yourself to a higher standard from today, not someday. Because the truth is, the rest of your life does not start when everything is perfect. It starts the moment you decide to expect more and act accordingly. The Trail Walking Club is a volunteer organisation that was formed in 1997, the original purpose was to run networking events whilst walking the fantastic moutnains of Great.Britain and Ireland.
Fast-forward to over 80 odd walks later and we are still going strong and run four free to attend public walks per year.
Since 2014 we have been dedicated to running fundraising events to support Mountain Rescue Teams in the UK.

I am now extending the initial 10000 mile challenge to 20000 Miles in memory of my parents who passed away 70 days apart in late 2019 and early 2020 and in aide of various UK mountain rescue teams.
I am now embarking on a second 10,000-mile challenge (2025–2029), supporting more of the UK’s incredible rescue teams:
10,000–12,000 miles Glossop MRT (Black Crag on the 9th Jan 2026)
12,000–14,000 miles: (ACTIVE STAGE) Cockermouth MRT (Haystacks and Fleetwith Pike)…I am now extending the initial 10000 mile challenge to 20000 Miles in memory of my parents who passed away 70 days apart in late 2019 and early 2020 and in aide of various UK mountain rescue teams.

The incredible volunteers of Mountain Rescue teams provide lifesaving search and rescue cover across the UK, including the areas where the National Three Peaks Challenge takes place. This challenge spans the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon—attracting thousands of participants who take on the challenge to raise money for charities like Macmillan Cancer Research and Age UK.
Inspired by their efforts, I wanted to give back to the heroes who make these challenges safer. While many climb the Three Peaks to support great causes, I have committed to walking 20,000 miles to support those who risk their lives to rescue others in need. Every step I take is to raise vital funds for the Mountain Rescue teams—because they are the ones who ensure that others can walk, climb, and explore safely.Other creators -
