Hello and welcome to your 2-Minute Tech Briefing f. rom ComputerWorld. I'm your host Arnold Davick, reporting from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Here are the top IT stories you need to know for Thursday, April 2nd.
Up first, Anthropic's Claude can now use a computer to handle tasks automatically, including browsing, opening files and running development tools. Anthropic emphasized that the system always requires a user's approval before opening new applications and that the process can be canceled at any time.
It also works with Dispatch, letting users assign tasks by phone. Anthropic says the feature is slow, can make mistakes, and should not be used with sensitive information. It's now in research preview for Claude Pro and Mac subscribers on macOS.
From ComputerWorld, Microsoft has outlined a broad Windows 11 quality overhaul.
After acknowledging performance, bug and consistency concerns, Microsoft is focusing on making Windows 11 more responsive and consistent by improving system and application performance across the board. The company says it will optimize file operations, search and File Explorer, reduce crashes and make updates less disruptive.
It also plans better Windows hello sign ins, more user control and a more measured AI rollout. And finally, from ComputerWorld, OpenAI is shutting down its Sora app, signaling a shift toward enterprise focused AI strategy. The company said on X we're saying goodbye to the Sora app.
To everyone who created with Sora, shared it and built community around it. Thank you. What you made with Sora mattered and we know this news is disappointing. The decision marks a notable change in direction as the company pivots away from consumer facing tools toward broader business applications.
