Continuous Improvement Project Engineer

Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Continuous Improvement Project Engineer. This role will focus on driving operational excellence and efficiency through the implementation of lean and six sigma methodologies, supporting cross-functional teams, and optimizing quality assurance and operational systems.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on process improvement projects, leveraging lean and six sigma methodologies.
  • Conduct advanced data analysis, including workflow analyses, time studies, and data collection, to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for departments implementing lean and six sigma practices, including advanced concepts like kaizen and value stream mapping.
  • Perform comprehensive reviews of departmental productivity and operational performance, identifying root causes of inefficiencies and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Support supply chain and quality improvement efforts to ensure operational excellence.


Examples of Projects

  • Optimize rotary side-by-side cartridge filling machine
  • Install new filling station for 68-5
  • Investigate/install ram press filling for 6398-B formula prototypes (can filling station.
  • Investigate / install ram press or pump driven filling station for 6398-A
  • Investigate vacuum conveying / check weighing micro-balloons into Ross mixers
  • Help implement bar-coding of raw materials and products
  • Help implement (over time) formulation process data collection from scales, VFD’s, temperature transmitters, bar coding software, etc.…to augment electronic batch records
  • Work with shot meters to see if we can implement pressure fed operation of shot meters for filling (using Graco pumps or presses)
  • Help implement an enclosed vessel cleaning system
  • Help implement a centralized vacuum cleaning system in the formulation area
  • Learn RCRA hazardous waste handling rules and manage waste generation and shipments
  • Look into container labelling systems
  • Help develop a visual production tracking system that uses cycle time data for each department to track and highlight critical path production based on a backwards planning sequence from the ship date. Use this as a KPI for scheduling efficiency.


Requirements

  • 5-15 years of industrial manufacturing experience. Batch chemical processing and packaging experience will be the most relevant.
  • Aerospace or similarly regulated industry experience.
  • Experience working within (and possibly developing) quality management systems
  • Degree in Industrial, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering will be beneficial. Industrial / Engineering technology graduates with relevant experience could be successful in this position
  • Some knowledge of basic industrial electrical systems
  • Some knowledge of common industrial automation and instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of industrial OSHA regulations pertaining to our business will be necessary
  • Working knowledge of US DOT Hazmat and EPA Air and Waste regulations may be beneficial
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed. Specifically, technical writing skills will be beneficial.
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary project team will be beneficial
  • Project management experience will be beneficial
