Imagine a Georgia State Patrol trooper is responding to a high-speed chase in a remote area. As the pursuit intensifies, the trooper finds himself out of range of his traditional radio system, losing critical communication with his dispatcher and fellow officers. Disconnections like this can jeopardize a trooper's safety and the success of his operation. For that reason, three years ago, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp launched the Georgia Statewide Interoperability Project, a groundbreaking initiative to unify the radio systems of Georgia’s first responders, law enforcement, and government agencies. This ambitious project has transformed the way these entities operate during emergencies, ensuring they can work together seamlessly and efficiently. Before the initiative began, the mobile communication landscape in Georgia was fragmented, with state and local organizations like the Georgia State Patrol and county law enforcement agencies using different Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems that couldn't communicate with each other. The lack of integrated communications among agencies led to inefficiencies and, in some cases, the potential for delayed response in life-threatening situations. To overcome this critical issue, Southern Linc was selected to integrate Georgia’s multiple radio systems with their own CriticalLinc™ LTE network. Using specially developed L3Harris Technologies radios and LMR-to-LTE radio network gateways from Catalyst Communications Technologies, Southern Linc expanded the State’s radio communications capabilities by thousands of miles. This integration between CriticalLinc and Georgia’s radio systems allowed departments to continuously connect to monitor and support evolving events with a single handset. In addition to providing inter-agency communication capabilities, users also received the benefit of seamless push-to-talk (PTT) communications across Georgia and across the country. This greatly improved PTT connectivity and has already proven invaluable in Georgia’s response to Hurricane Helene and in previous interstate criminal pursuits. Southern Linc is proud to partner with the state of Georgia to make sure our mission critical first responders can serve all of Georgia’s communities.
