The investment is set to free up vital space at Devonport for critical Ministry of Defence programmes, strengthen Plymouth's position as a nationally recognised hub for defence, engineering and innovation, and deliver a meaningful boost to the local economy. On my patch, we were excited to see a shared use path delivered through J28 of the M25 to help connect Romford to Brentwood* (something which should have been done when the M25 was built). We were further excited to see a proposal to continue the route to Brentwood. Except it stopped well short of the town centre and was pretty much all shared-use on a steep hill with driveways and vertical features at the rear reducing the effective width. But at least entrance kerbs were being proposed to get away from the rollercoaster of vehicle crossings we often get. Well, the scheme goes to Essex County Council's cabinet next week. It is has doubled in cost and has had a whole section chopped off rather than deal with the steep hill. It's almost as if LTN 1/20 was written in Dutch. Page 17 on the agenda onwards if anyone can stand it. https://lnkd.in/eRy7iVxK *I had a hand in the project an an earlier stage and what was built will be written up on my blog at some point.
