With the Final Investment Decision for Sizewell C now confirmed, and teams already on the ground, we’re one step closer to realising Sizewell C – a project that will make Britain a clean and secure energy superpower, creating thousands of jobs and apprenticeships – over 10,000 to be precise. With a heritage in nuclear construction spanning nearly seven decades, from pioneering civil works at Berkeley Nuclear Power Station in 1957 to delivering critical infrastructure at Hinkley Point C - Sizewell C’s sister project, Balfour Beatty plc will bring unparalleled experience and expertise to the project alongside our Civil Works Alliance partners: Laing O'Rourke and Bouygues Travaux Publics We’re ready to get to work - applying the successful innovative solutions and the lessons we have learnt along the way from Hinkley Point C - to deliver this nationally significant project safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. https://lnkd.in/ewwnQRfP
An exciting milestone for the Sizewell C Project. It’s worth highlighting a key geotechnical challenge that may influence early delivery: the extensive peat and clay layers observed across the site, particularly over an area requiring approximately 3 million m³ of Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) at depths of 5–12 meters (as indicated in GI Report 7, cross-sections on pages 393–394). These soil compositions are not ideal for a project of this scale, particularly given the financial commitments associated with the project’s Payback Period. Consolidation settlements with timeframes of 6–9 years could pose substantial delays if not addressed prudently within the Earthworks Design phase. Incorporating DSM stabilisation and/or Preloading with Vertical Drains (PWD) at this early stage may offer substantial benefit by lowering pore pressures and increasing critical soil parameters, thus improving bearing capacity and reducing long-term settlement risk.
Incredible milestone for the UK's clean energy and infrastructure future. With thousands of jobs and apprenticeships on the horizon, now is the moment to ensure young people from all backgrounds are part of the conversation — and the workforce. At Solutions for the Planet, we see the huge potential of projects like Sizewell C to inspire the next generation of engineers, sustainability leaders, and innovators. Would love to explore how youth voice and real engagement could be embedded across this journey.Cory Reynolds Gwen Parry Jones #FutureSkills #YouthVoice #Infrastructure #NetZero #STEMCareers
Great combination of ‘power horses’ for delivering within an Alliance set up and on a grand scale. ‘Best athletes’ alone don’t win you gold medals in an Alliance environment. Alliancing is an art and relies on the magic of people, cross pollinating for the greater good. Anyone involved with a role, should feel privaledged by the time the journey completes 👍
Great to see these projects generating growth, jobs and opportunities … https://www.linkedin.com/posts/richardjlyndon_uks-future-depends-on-building-and-making-activity-7292139889779724288-1yqY?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&rcm=ACoAAAOB8TwB35hDmZkRWuG81c3Wwtts-5QJFLU
Big milestone. Excited to see what lessons from Hinkley turn into for Sizewell. Always impressive to see a project with this kind of impact for jobs and skills, not just energy.
Looking forward to see the lessons from HPC put in to practice with a new mix of Asset Owners 👍
Great news for the future environment : employment and supported industries in the area. Well done to all.
🚀 Exciting update, Leo

7moThere’s an unseen reality in recruitment processes in the UK: Have you ever experienced something like this in Sizewell C in CWA for the applications coming through the Bouygues's HR team? Interviewed by the other Partners in the Joint venture, BB and LOR. Sometimes your CV looks too strong. The person interviewing you may actually be the manager of that department. In other words, the decision-maker, the one who owns the seat. And the thought crossing their mind might be: “This candidate would do better than me. One day they might take my place…” The result? Instead of hiring you, they secure their own position. Whereas the right perspective should have been: “This candidate will come, strengthen my team, and elevate me as well.” But unfortunately, not everyone can think this way.
