The history of military relations between Druses and Jews during the Israeli-Arab War of 1948-49 was traced. Jewish-Druse relations have their roots in the series of riots which shook Palestine in 1929 and consolidated with the outbreak of the Palestinian rebellion of 1936-39. Jewish leaders actively solicited Druse cooperation, knowing that it would benefit the Jewish cause in the event of a conflict with Arabs. The alliance between both groups reached its summit with the creation of the IDF minorities unit in 1948.
