his delegation shared their experience as a World Cup host city in 2006 with their Newcastle counter parts, in order to boostNewcastle's bid to be included in England's World Cup 2018/2022. Consul General Wolfgang Moessinger, welcomed this example of practical solidarity and mutual support. The Leader of Gateshead Council, Mick Henry, was also present.

The visit of this presigious deligation was also marked by the opening of an exhibition in Newcastle City Library to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, together with the German Honorary Consul for Tyne & Wear, Josephine Chexal. The exhibition will run until the end of August and depicts via photos, documents and text the dramatic events that led to the reunification of Germany - "From the peaceful revolution to German Unity"

Another highlight of the visit was the Bobby Robson Testimonial Match in St. James' Park (see separate article)
