The lost love letter from “Saved by the Bell” By Brittany Ashley
February 14. 1992 A.C. Slater, I believe it was William Shakespeare who said, “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star-crossed lovers took their life.” I didn’t pay too much attention during the poetry unit in English class, but I think it has something to do with how Romeo and Juliet were born into rivalry but they loved each other anyways. Some could say this is like us, Slater. The competition for Kelly really took a toll on our friendship. That time you ratted me out to Belding when I had detention but ditched it to go see Kelly at the beach, man, I thought I was never going to forgive you for that one. But you wrestled your way back into my heart. Looks like they didn’t call you the Bayside High 1989-1992 Varsity Wrestling Champion for no reason. Despite our constant rivalry for Kelly’s love, we really did have some good times. Like when we both kidnapped Valley’s mascot, I have never seen your jheri curl look better, it must have been that new Aqua Net you were using (I should thank Major Slater for that great head of hair). Or when those horrible jerks from Valley tried getting dirt on Screech before the big chess tournament and stole his beret, then we pulled the old switcheroo on their best player, the Russian kid. I swear, in the right light, you looked like a rad version of The Fonzy. But we’ve also had some warmer moments, like when Jessie had her very serious, one-day addiction to caffeine pills, I couldn’t have made her kick the habit without the help of you, Slater. Or when Jessie’s evil step-brother, Eric, was in town and he took apart the car that Lisa totaled to get us in trouble with Belding. I didn’t know if we were going to get through that one…but we did…together. Did I ever ask you if A.C. stood for “Always Comforting”? I guess what I’m trying to say is that since it’s Valentine’s Day and all, I thought I’d tell you how I feel. And don’t worry, I’m not trying to trick you with any subliminal messaging like I did a few years ago (Mom and Dad are

still mad about that one after they found out). I know that sometimes I call you a dumb jock but what I really mean to say is that you’re my best friend and no chick will ever get in the way of that. Not Kelly, not Jessie and certainly not Tori because something tells me she likes women anyways. Have a great Valentine’s Day. See you third period. With Love, Zack Morris a.k.a. Preppy
