A woman was found dead inside her Rhode Island hotel room after her son died by suicide, local police said.
Officers were sent to the Harbor Base Inn on Connell Highway to make a death notification, the Newport Police Department said in a press release.
Police were trying to contact Terry Costello, 85, to announce that her son, 66, had died by suicide, the department said.
Officers found Costello’s body in one of the hotel’s rooms, police said.
The state’s medical examiner is conducting an autopsy on Costello. Her death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
Police are investigating her death but believe it to be an isolated incident, with no active threat to the public, Newport police said.
