Role Overview:

The Data Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability of data across enterprise systems. This role designs, implements, and maintains data quality frameworks, automated checks, and monitoring solutions to support analytics, reporting, and data‑driven decision‑making.


Key Responsibilities

Data Quality Management

  • Design and implement data quality rules, checks, and validations across data pipelines
  • Define and monitor data quality metrics (accuracy, completeness, timeliness, consistency, validity)
  • Identify data anomalies, root causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Perform data profiling and data assessments for new and existing datasets

Engineering & Automation

  • Build automated data quality frameworks using SQL, Python, or data quality tools
  • Integrate data quality checks into ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Implement alerting and dashboards for proactive data quality monitoring
  • Ensure data quality controls are embedded in cloud and on‑prem data platforms

Collaboration & Governance

  • Work closely with Data Engineers, Analysts, Data Scientists, and Business Stakeholders
  • Support data governance initiatives, including data standards and definitions
  • Assist with data audits, compliance, and regulatory requirements
  • Document data quality rules, issues, and resolutions

Continuous Improvement

  • Track recurring data issues and drive long‑term remediation
  • Improve data reliability and trust across analytics and reporting platforms
  • Stay current with best practices in data quality, observability, and engineering

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with SQL (advanced querying and validation)
  • Proficiency in Python (or similar scripting language) for automation
  • Hands‑on experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Airflow, Informatica, Talend, dbt)
  • Experience working with data warehouses/lakes (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Azure Synapse, Databricks)
  • Familiarity with data quality tools (Great Expectations, Deequ, Collibra DQ, Informatica DQ, Talend DQ)

Data & Analytics

  • Strong understanding of data modeling and data lifecycle
  • Experience with structured and semi‑structured data
  • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and master data concepts

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills to explain data issues to technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Detail‑oriented with a strong sense of ownership
  • Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional teams

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Quality, or Analytics Engineering
  • Experience in cloud data platforms is preferred

The Data Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability of data across enterprise systems. This role designs, implements, and maintains data quality frameworks, automated checks, and monitoring solutions to support analytics, reporting, and data‑driven decision‑making.


Pay:

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $110,000 - $125,000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus for the current performance period.


Benefits:

As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time. You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company. In addition, you are eligible to participate in the Company 401(k) Plan after 30 days of employment, in accordance with the applicable plan terms. The Company provides for 11 paid holidays and 12 weeks of Parental Leave. We also follow a “free time” PTO policy, allowing you the flexibility to take time needed for either sick time or vacation.
