At Sunnybrook, our vision is to invent the future of health care.

About us

From our beginnings as a hospital for Canadian veterans, Sunnybrook has flourished into a fully affiliated teaching hospital of the University of Toronto, evolving to meet the needs of our growing community. Today, with 1.3 million patient visits each year, Sunnybrook has established itself across three campuses and is home to Canada's largest trauma centre. Sunnybrook's groundbreaking research changes the way patients are treated around the world. Our over 200 scientists and clinician-scientists conduct more than $100 million of breakthrough research each year. Tomorrow, we will discover ways to treat the untreatable. Our mission is to care for our patients and their families when it matters most. Our vision is to invent the future of health care. Our values are: excellence, collaboration, accountability, respect and engagement. See Sunnybrook's ambitious plan to invent the future of health care: sunnybrook.ca/strategicplan

  • Take a behind-the-scenes look at this year's #EarthWeek events. This week, staff and community members had the opportunity to participate in a variety of sustainability and climate-focused events, including an Indigenous garden tour, a campus clean-up, a biodiversity showcase, and a horticulture therapy lecture. Thank you to our Green Task Force for bringing this week to life and to our partners at TFS - Canada’s International School (Toronto French School), Glendon Campus of York University | Campus Glendon de l’Université York, and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Your continued partnership is helping us create a greener, more sustainable healthcare system for all.

  • After surviving a devastating ATV crash in 2020, Angie Crowley has had 10 surgeries to her face, head and neck, and lives with the effects of a traumatic brain injury. Few would guess what Angie has been through, thanks to the work of Maxillofacial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Fialkov and his team. Through her resilience and commitment to giving back, Angie has become a patient advisor with Sunnybrook’s Tory Trauma Program, helping shape care, education and research for future patients. “When I hear of someone being taken to Sunnybrook, it puts me at ease. I know they are in great hands.” Read Angie’s inspiring story and learn more about Sunnybrook’s Patient and Family Partner Program: https://lnkd.in/eq7x9hFD

  • Nearly three hundred kilometres north-east of Sunnybrook, Dr. Samira Mubareka is conducting research to understand how viruses circulate in wildlife. Her focus is on the intersection of infectious disease, public health and nature, driven by what was learned during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re striving to understand health not just from the human perspective, but also from the animal perspective,” Dr. Mubareka says. “We’re talking about livestock, companion animals and wildlife, but also plants, water and the ecosystems that we all share.” The work is done in collaboration with Wild EPI, a research collective co-led by Dr. Mubareka with goal to develop approaches to understand and prevent zoonotic pathogen spillover between species. It’s guided by a One Health philosophy, a framework that recognizes the deep linkages between the health of humans, animals and ecosystems. It says that threats to human health, whether infectious diseases or pandemics, cannot be fully understood or prevented without also understanding and upholding the health of the natural environment around us. It’s a way of thinking that has gained considerable traction in the years since COVID-19, and one that Dr. Mubareka believes is essential to preventing the next pandemic. • For more than 22 years, the Women’s Health Golf Classic has brought together an incredible community of supporters to advance women’s cancer care at Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre, raising over $5 million to date. This year, we are proud to continue this legacy with a refreshed experience on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the historic Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto—bringing together exceptional golf, meaningful connection, and a shared commitment to improving patient care. In 2026, the tournament is supporting a critical priority: enhancing breast cancer surgery through the purchase of advanced technologies that will help enable safer surgeries, faster recoveries, and better outcomes. While the event is now sold out, we invite you to support this important cause by making a donation today https://lnkd.in/eWGJnCTm .

  • We’re excited to share that we have been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. This marks our 18th straight year receiving this designation! This week, we have also received a certificate of recognition from The Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care for our effort to reduce nitrous oxide emissions and our demonstrated leadership in sustainability in Canadians health care.    These achievements are all possible thanks to the incredible efforts of our Green Task Force. Created in 2022, this team of dedicated staff volunteers focuses on delivering results that strengthen our environmental stewardship and create lasting impact.   As we look ahead, our focus on long-term decarbonization, climate resilience and waste reduction will help build a more sustainable and resilient health-care system for all.    Learn more about our award and the work of our Green Task Force: https://lnkd.in/ehUaWg6T
