Got Over My Fear of Cooking with Anna’s The Yellow Table!!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2022Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis cookbook is solely responsible for helping me get over my fear of being in the kitchen!! I found the list in the front of the book about how to stock your pantry/kitchen to be so empowering. It was always intimidating for me to get started on a recipe since I felt like I didn’t have the basics in my home. I’ve now created and enjoyed probably a third of the recipes in this book! I’m so proud of myself and am excited to contribute a food item to gatherings now (when I used to be the one who contributed flowers or wine).
I’ve gifted this cookbook to several loved ones now. Anna’s recipes are so accessible (especially for beginners like me) and truly delicious. I also love Anna’s personal stories woven throughout since I also lived in NYC for a chapter of my life.
I’m working up the courage to tackle some of the more refined/challenging recipes in here, but I’ve got the soups and baking down with confidence! I return to those recipes over and over again. And I joined Anna’s email list so there are new recipes (and personal stories) shared there too. Cannot recommend Anna Watson Carl and this cookbook enough! Thank you for helping me find joy and ease in the kitchen!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2016Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis is an absolutely gorgeous book! The photos are gorgeous and every page makes me want to say "OOooo! I want to try making that!"
The recipes are very good. Most are not too confusing or difficult. I did not feel like I needed to be a gourmet chef to pull them off. The ones that i have tried, have turned out very well and given me confidence to use these for a dinner party or guests.
If you have an area in your home or in your kitchen to display some cook books, this is a good one to display. It could double as a coffee table book. Truly the photos and layout of the food are that good!
Here is how I use the Star-Rating system;
1 star = Hate the product- Don't waste your money. Trying to get a refund.
2 star = Dislike the product- would not buy it again.
3 star = Indifferent- Neither like or dislike the product. Probably not going to recommend to a friend.
4 star = Like product. Would recommend.
5 star = LOVE the product. If you want a product, buy this one!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2015I love this cookbook! The recipes are simple to follow and they produce the most delicious meals! I asked for this cookbook for Christmas as I've followed Anna's blog and have never been disappointed. I got it and it's on my counter on display. I always appreciate when a cookbook is broken down by seasons, which this one is within the categories so it makes it super easy to use. And dishes reference other dishes to cook together. The Parmesan Polenta and Sausage Ragu is my favorite meal so far and was well fitted for a cold December night. At the end of the cookbook is a section called Simple Suppers, they are great meals that can be made for a weeknight or weekend! I would highly recommend this cookbook. This cookbook is becoming one of my favorites along side Mark Bittman and Julia Child.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2015Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI just ordered ten of these cookbooks. (That’s not hyperbole, I actually just ordered ten.) My wife and I are now giving these books away as wedding gifts, so I decided to just stock up because we always find ourselves 11 months and 364 days late delivering wedding gifts. We love cooking. We luuuuuurv cooking. We have lots and lotz and lotses of cookbooks, and this one is our absolute favorite. We’ve been annoyed by so many cookbooks (“Seriously, ya call that enough salt, people!”), but this one has been nailing it every time. After about the fifth recipe that we cooked out of here (that we luuurrrrrvvved), we just decided to go Julie and Julia all up in this cookbook’s face and cook through the whole freakin’ thing. It’ll take some time (some yummy, savory, happy, delicious time), but we’ll get there… someone’s gotta do it.
Did I mention that this book is an excellent wedding gift!?! Oh yeah, I did. But, for real, awesome wedding gift… all you gotta do is write a note in the front of the book about having a date together, turning on some music, opening a bottle of wine… yada yada yada… perfect married night. Perfect wedding gift. There you go. You’re welcome.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2019Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this before! I first found this book in my library, fell in love with the aesthetic, and decided to try a few recipes out. Here we are a year later and my copy I purchased has seen quite a lot of use! I’ve cooked upwards of 20 recipes so far and am trying to explore more each week. NOTHING—seriously, nothing has disappointed and a few dishes (the mustard-honey salmon, turkey chili, and black rice stir fry to name a few) have become regulars on my table.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2015Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseAbsolutely love this cookbook! The recipes are easy to follow and everything we've made has been delicious. I like how she elevates simple, everyday dishes into something extraordinary - like the olive appetizer (Soooo easy and the few added ingredients take it to a whole new level), and the ragu (second helpings all around -yay). My daughter and I read the back story of how the book came to be, and it alone is worth the purchase - very inspirational! Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2016Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis cookbook is excellent. I was given this one by a friend and its awesome! I have owned it for a couple years now and I have even given it out as a gift to other friends. The recipes are original and the photos are enticing. Whenever I need inspiration in the cookbook, I just pull this out and start flipping through. Excellent vegetarian options as well.

Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseLoved this book. The recipes work, taste delicious but very inspiring. I have so far made the biscotti, roast vegetable ratatouille and raspberry crumble bars. I like the photos too. Glad that I added this book to my collection!
