What advice would you give your younger self, knowing what you know now? 💭   Last week at EdCAT, we sat down with the incredible Tracey Spicer AM GAICD and Katherine Bennell-Pegg to ask that exact question. With today being Girls in ICT Day, their reflections feel more urgent than ever.   Their advice served as a powerful reminder of why women belong in tech: 💪 On Courage: Tracey Spicer AM reminded us that you don’t have to wait for change, you can make it. The more you stand up for yourself and against bad behaviors, the stronger you become. It’s a muscle you build over time.  🚀 On Growth: Katherine Bennell-Pegg highlighted that it’s not just about technical skill. Being a "well-rounded person" through your outside interests is actually the secret foundation for performing in complex team environments.    The future of ICT needs more diverse voices. What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d heard when you were entering the field? Let us know in the comments.

  • Inspiring the Next Generation of Tech Leaders 🚀 The ACS Young Tech Ambassador program is proving that if you can see it, you can be it. By connecting students with relatable role models, we are helping young innovators across Australia explore pathways into the technology sector. Recently, Sakshee Tosniwal, a Software Engineer at Suncorp, shared her powerful journey from a small city in India to building a thriving career in Australia. Her session focused on breaking barriers for women in tech and challenging the status quo: "I’ve learned that with hard work and intention, anything is possible. No one ever told me I couldn’t do something and if any young person has been told that, I hope to challenge and change that narrative.” The program has opened many invaluable doors, especially to kids in regional or rural homeschooling areas. “Many of our young people would otherwise struggle to access programs like this or to hear from experienced mentors," said Jillina Whittaker, Founder of Homeschool Hotline / HERRD Kids. Fourteen-year-old Ava, a student participant, echoed this, “it was motivating to hear how Sakshee got to where she is and to learn about the IT fields and salaries.” This initiative is proudly funded by the Queensland Government Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation. The Young Tech Ambassador program aims to inspire the next generation of digital innovators across Australia. To learn more, connect with Matthew Jorgensen here on LinkedIn.
