Australia in the palm of your hand

About us

We’ve Got Australia in Your Pocket—Literally Picture this: you're traveling through Australia, wondering where to eat, what to see, and how to make the most of your time. We’ve got you covered, mate. GoingToPlaces.com delivers everything you need—tourist attractions, accommodation, community events, and so much more—straight to your palm. It all started in 2012, when I launched a successful BnB business and learned first-hand what travellers really needed. Hosting guests, 80% of whom were international tourists, opened my eyes to a massive gap: people constantly asked for info on local services, businesses, and how to find Australia’s hidden gems. So, I stopped just answering questions—I built solutions. In August 2016, I published my first travel app, Robe SA, on the Apple and Google app stores. It was a hit. From there, things snowballed faster than a kangaroo on a downhill slope: December 2016 brought The Great Ocean Road Victoria and Kangaroo Island SA. Not long after, apps for Barossa Valley SA and the Limestone Coast joined the lineup. Fast forward to 2024, and we’ve turned those early wins into an entire digital ecosystem covering South Australia. Want the best places to eat, drink, shop, or visit? We’ve got it. Need directions or activities? Easy. Here’s the kicker: this ecosystem isn’t just a local success—it’s gone global. Years of data collection and innovation earned us a spot among the top 45 entries (out of 500+ submissions worldwide!) in the Taiwan Tourism Innovation Awards. Not too shabby, eh? Our mission has never changed: deliver the guide to Australia’s towns and regions into your hand. Whether you’re a traveler or a local, we help you discover what makes each region unique—and how to make every moment unforgettable. So, go ahead. Explore Australia the way it’s meant to be seen—with GoingToPlaces.com by your side.

Compared to 2024, the number of foreign visitors to the U.S. in 2025 has declined by more than 6.8 million (-9.4%). The overwhelming majority of this decline is attributable to a substantial drop in Canadian visitors (-5.6 million, -27.5%). There have also been significant declines in visitors from Mexico (-369 thousand) and Germany (-225 thousand). The economic effects are nontrivial, with substantial direct impacts on the hospitality and transportation sectors, particularly at the local level. In addition, there are considerable indirect and induced effects.

  • We keep chasing explanations for what’s happening to wine. It’s the economy. It’s wellness culture. It’s younger generations. It’s oversupply. It’s distribution. It’s the algorithm. It’s all of it... ...and none of it. Because even if every external pressure eased tomorrow, there’s a question we’d still need to answer: ✅Would we actually know how to rebuild loyalty, trust, and meaning… or have we forgotten how? That’s the part I can’t ignore. The drift. The slow, almost invisible movement away from what made wine distinctive in the first place, the things you can’t discount into existence: trust, connection, belonging, conversation. So before we ask “How do we sell more?”, it’s worth asking some harder questions: ✅What are we trying to protect? ✅What have we accidentally traded away in the name of efficiency, scale, and being “modern”? ✅And if a winery has optimised itself into something that feels like any other consumer category… why would anyone treat it differently? This is where Mike Carter lands with the idea of 'Refounding'. A return to foundational character. So here are a few questions to sit with as you read: ✅If someone walked into your tasting room today, would they feel like they’ve entered a gathering, or a transaction? ✅Do your incentives reward relationship depth, or short-term volume? ✅If your brand disappeared tomorrow, what would people miss it? And the biggest one: ✅Are you leading a wine business… or stewarding a human role that wine has played for centuries? Because if the real crisis is drift, then the real work isn’t prediction. It’s REMEMBERING, and choosing what you’re going to rebuild. Thank you Mike Carter for one more insightful article. #rethinkingthewineindustry #winebusiness #wineindustry #wine #rethinkingwine

AI is a must adopt tool for professional use. We have developed with our partners Diime Technology https://sajhaai.com/ Our own AI infrastructure. SajhaAI is becoming the intelligence layer inside the South Australia App, transforming it from a static directory into a living, adaptive regional assistant. By integrating SajhaAI, the SA App can understand local needs, guide users to the right businesses, and help operators improve visibility across tourism, trades, retail, services, and community sectors. Instead of simply listing information, the app now interprets it offering personalised recommendations, answering questions about regions, suggesting events, and helping businesses optimise their presence. This incorporation turns the South Australia App into a smart, AI‑powered ecosystem that supports local economies, strengthens community discovery, and delivers a modern, intuitive experience for residents, visitors, and operators alike. Take the steps to put your business in the best position. Great opportunity to get yourself up to speed with AI at this event. #SajhaAI #SouthAustraliaapp #AIinfrastructure

Batteries in Public Housing A Unique Opportunity The continuing decline in battery costs makes the federal government’s $375/kwh subsidy look very generous, and has led to supersizing installations. 50kwh for little more than petty cash. Ember report an installed cost for utility batteries of US$125/kwh and while home batteries carry a premium, the price sets a floor which has consistently fallen each year. The major cost in Australia is marketing, where 9,000 accredited small scale installers compete for single pv and battery installs. The opportunity is for a CATL or BYD to compete aggressively on battery price. They’re the only companies big enough to capture the bulk of the market. Tesla are big enough but on past experience don’t compete on price. 24,000 NSW public housing rentals are up for grabs. They’re already installing free solar and heat pump HWS. Batteries are the obvious next big thing and unlike pv and heat pumps, batteries are dominated by two players, CATL and BYD. Which means ferociously cheap prices. Feds and state cover 100%. Tenant keeps all benefits. To the victor go the spoils. Like, Comment or Repost to share the love

We have designed and manufactured the best Wheelstop in Australia! We claim this because it is made from our PostPrime ®️resin which has full Life Cycle Analysis, EPD and transparent supply chain. It is made from 100% Australian sourced waste and has been designed to be the strongest plastic Wheelstop with shock absorbing design features. It also houses digital sensor technology from Park Agility which also makes it an IoT housing. You can fit it as Standard without technology and then have the technology retrofitted only if required. We will also take them back at the end of life to recycle them again. See, the best..😁

The Albanese Federal Government of Australia has indicated that housing targets are now aspirational only, resulting in a $300,000 increase in the cost of aspiring to home ownership. We are witnessing a new level of incomprehensibility amid Australia's worst-ever affordable housing crisis. The ambitious goal of constructing 1.2 million dwellings in five years seems unachievable, especially with a current shortage of over 250,000 skilled tradespeople across Metropolitan Australia, which relies on slow and inefficient custom construction methods. Recently, Homes NSW, an NSW Government agency, has decided to abandon 1,500 new dwelling projects due to feasibility concerns, as reported by the SMH. In Metropolitan Sydney alone, approximately 35,000 high-quality mid-rise apartments are needed annually for the foreseeable future. Notably, over 80% of Metropolitan Sydney's housing requirements are for apartments, yet only around 10,000 are expected to be built annually over the next three years. The Thrive Alliance consortia are poised to scale up over the next 3 to 5 years, aiming to produce around 15,000 apartments this year and to deliver inclusive, high-quality, residential-grade mid-rise apartments annually from the world's largest advanced volumetric modular production facility, on a scale comparable to automotive manufacturing plants. Planned over the next 2-3 years: two additional massive-scale plants, up to 40,000 inclusive-quality mid-rise apartments per year. This will be accomplished through our advanced volumetric modular construction facility, which provides fast-track, fast-to-market, and carbon-free pathway solutions for gentle density infill housing. This housing shortfall is projected to add $300,000 to the cost of achieving the dream of homeownership. It is not sustainable, as the market is on the cusp of having no financial capacity to pay for younger families, especially essential and key city workers, who make up over 500,000 in Metropolitan Sydney's workforce. For a closer look at our Thrive Alliance inclusive quality residential-grade mid-rise apartments, please visit Thriveconstruct.com.au For further details, you can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/df5GQZd8. #Harropfactor #Placemaker #UrbanRenewal #Inclusiveness #residentialgrade #midrise #fasttrack #fasttomarket #SocialResponsibility #essentialworkers #keyworkers #BabyBoomers #downsizingoptions #socialdwellings #ThriveAlliance #AffordableHousing #BigThinking

Make Victoria the Innovation State Call for Innovators and Entrepreneurs The Victorians www.victorians.org.au Leyla-Lidia Yalcin will lead our Team of Candidates for the #Victorians in this year's Victorian state election. She is putting together a team of #innovators and #entrepreneurs to rebuild a broken state. #Leyla is an Australian of Turkish background, living in Sydenham in Melbourne’s West. She is a Principal Consultant for global tech company #Oracle, working in infrastructure and engineering. She has worked in the Middle East and North Africa. Leyla is a single mother with a 10 year daughter, a former primary school teacher, and wants to reform #schools and revive #teaching as a profession. She is passionate about youth mental health and support for kids and families. Our #Mission To transform Victoria into a powerhouse in innovation, technology, education and research, and a leader in open, transparent and accountable democracy. Our aim is to fix the state's #operating system, not just its potholes. Our #Goal To secure the election of sufficient Members of the Victorian Parliament in November 2026 to hold the Balance of Power and drive a transformative agenda. Our #Method To harness the power of five of Victoria’s most unrecognised and underutilised #sectors in winning seats in the Victorian Parliament: a. the #innovation and #research sector; b. small and medium-sized enterprises (#SMEs); c. #immigrant communities, e. #teachers and #healthworkers, and d. the #regions. Join Us https://lnkd.in/eCKj2PW5 ___ The 2026 Victorian State Election represents a historical inflexion point. The state is currently trapped in a cycle of "Extractive Economics"—a passive model reliant on #property taxes, #gambling revenue, and spiralling #debt—while productivity stagnates. The Labor Government offers "protection" without growth, treating voters as dependents. The Liberal Opposition looks backward to a pre-digital era, fighting culture wars instead of economic ones. "The Victorians" propose a radical #pivot. We will transform Victoria from the self-proclaimed "Education State" into the "Innovation State"—the epicentre of the Future Digital Economy of Australia. Our #strategy is built on a powerful new #coalition. We believe that Victoria’s immigrant communities are not just a demographic #feature but our greatest economic #engine. By harnessing the "Quiet Architects" of our immigrant communities and pairing them with the institutional #stability of our Anglo-European heritage, we will drive a generation of wealth, innovation, and trade that benefits all Victorians. www.victorians.org.au
