🎙️ 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐰: 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐎𝐰𝐧𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐄𝐫𝐚? In this latest episode of 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘗𝘰𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵 (𝘈𝘜), we’re joined by Dr Sue Keay, Director of the UNSW AI Institute and Founder of Robotics Australia Group, to explore what it really takes to 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 from an Australian perspective. As AI becomes embedded across industries, the real challenge isn’t just what AI can do; it’s who controls the data, how decisions are made, and whether organisations are truly set up to create value. In this episode, we discuss: ✔️ Why many organisations are stuck between 𝒑𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒕𝒔 and real AI impact ✔️ The rise of 𝑨𝑰 𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 and what it unlocks internally ✔️ Why 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒂 𝒐𝒘𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 is becoming a critical competitive advantage ✔️ How 𝒓𝒆𝒈𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 can actually support innovation ✔️ What it will take for Australia to build 𝒔𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝑨𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 If you work in tech, leadership, innovation, or policy, this conversation offers a grounded perspective on where AI is really heading in Australia. 🎬 Watch the trailer ⏬⏬⏬ 🎧 Listen to the full episode — link in the comments 🎞️ Soumya S. 🎙️ Coming Next Week on 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒆𝒄𝒉 (𝑨𝑼). We’re excited to share our upcoming episode, releasing next week. We sat down with Dr Sue Keay, a leader at the forefront of Australia’s AI and robotics ecosystem at UNSW, to unpack what AI adoption actually looks like on the ground today. This one goes beyond the headlines. We explore: ✔️ Why many organisations are still struggling to move from AI experimentation to real impact. ✔️ The rise of AI enablement roles and what they unlock inside organisations. ✔️ Why data ownership is becoming a critical competitive advantage. ✔️ How regulation can actually support innovation, not slow it down. ✔️ And what it will take for Australia to build true AI capability. One theme kept coming up: 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 — 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤, 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞. If you’re in 𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒉, 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑, 𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒚, or simply trying to make sense of where AI is heading in Australia, this episode will give you a grounded perspective. What The Tech (AU) reposted this
Just finished recording a nearly two-hour podcast as a guest on What The Tech (AU) with Vivienne and René. A few of the views I shared: • Every AI app is a data app in disguise. • Developers do not want less control. They want less plumbing. • Most engineering teams do not have a scaling problem. Most have a complexity problem. • AI lets more people build. Solid foundations are as important as ever. • Open source is becoming an almost existential choice for enterprises. • The market is moving away from distributed by default and back towards simple stacks that earn complexity later. That is why people now launch businesses in 36 hours, not months. • Building distributed applications before you have millions of users is often better for your resume than for your product. Stay tuned!

Looking ahead, with AI becoming an intrinsic part of a designer’s toolbox, how does the future look like? Listen to Christina (CJ) Jones expressing her viewpoint ⬇️⬇️⬇️ #whatthetech #podcast #australia #canva #design #ai

For most of the history of software, product design meant designing screens. Layouts. Buttons. Navigation. Interaction flows. But AI products are changing that definition. When intelligence becomes part of the product, the design challenge expands beyond the interface. The screen is now just the visible layer of a much more complex system. In our latest conversation on What The Tech (AU), Christina (CJ) Jones (Head of Design at Canva) explained how this shift is changing how design teams work. Her team has to consider not just the interface, but the “technical limitations of everything we’re building.” That includes models, prompts, latency, guardrails, and evaluation frameworks. Which means the role of designers is evolving. Design is no longer just about how things look. It’s about how systems behave. We wrote a short breakdown exploring why AI is forcing designers to think beyond the screen. Article below 👇 https://lnkd.in/gspv-b8x #AI #ProductDesign #UXDesign #GenerativeAI #FutureOfWork

AI can now generate design that looks professional in seconds. Landing pages. Interfaces. Marketing visuals. The floor of creativity is rising fast. But here’s the real question: If everything looks “good enough”, how do we recognise what’s truly great? In our latest Substack piece, we explore an idea from our conversation with Christina (CJ) Jones (from Canva): “A lot of those outputs are just the average of everything.” AI expands possibilities — but judgment becomes the real differentiator.
