Richa Agrawal liked thisRicha Agrawal liked thisAs my time with Atlassian has wound up, I would like to indulge in some reflection on my 13 years with the company and offer up a thank you or two. I chose Atlassian because it looked like a fun company with a lot of smart people working there, and (this cannot be overstated) I could wear shorts to work. All these aspects never disappointed in my whole time there. The sheer volume of amazing humans that I worked with is staggering, a number that only grew with time as the company got larger and larger. I am grateful for everything the time has given me. I grew as a person, a leader, a technologist and a meme-understander (coming from a very low base). Earlier in my career, I could never have countenanced spending this much time at any one company, but Atlassian in my time there was many companies - the growth was constant and the opportunity offered was equally constant. To put things into perspective, the team that I led when I left was larger than the company I joined. I wish I could name all the people I've learned from, whose talent I've marvelled at, or had the immense pleasure of working with, but the crime of omission I would be committing by leaving anyone out would be unforgivable. Hopefully I've done some fraction of this thanks in person along the way. A special callout goes to the group of amazing managers that I've had through the years. You all know who you are, give yourselves a good hearty pat on the back. After this long in the game, I am taking some time to reflect and recharge (which is LinkedIn speak for think and nap). I'm always open to a coffee and a chat - I've enjoyed those I've had the last couple of weeks and look forward to more. Thank you to everyone who's reached out to me over this time, the support has been overwhelming.

I built an agent harness for design workflows that extracts and replicates design systems on top of shadcn/base-ui, so designers can prototype quickly without waiting on a fully LLM-friendly system to exist first. https://lnkd.in/gJQJdHX8 It solves a real problem I had. Maybe others do too. I'm making it open source, have a play and remix away. Keen to hear how it might fit into your design workflows. It's not perfect and has loads that can be improved on. I'll keep refining it as I go. I think there's a lot of room for designers to start building more with AI, not just using it as a shortcut, but as an actual part of the workflow. I'm still learning what that looks like.

That's where it starts. It's not where it ends... As you grow, the role transforms completely. You stop just building UI and start designing interaction systems. You define the state architecture. You own how content loads — whether that's through streaming, suspense, or hydration. Accessibility stops being a checkbox and becomes a strategy you drive from day one. You stop just rendering and start solving the hard challenge of making content visible to customers within a second. You learn to analyze bundles, split code strategically, profile runtime performance, instrument real user metrics, and optimize Core Web Vitals not as a one-off task but as an ongoing discipline. You start thinking in systems instead of screens. You shape the contracts between frontend and backend so the APIs are actually ergonomic to consume. You think deeply about how errors propagate through the UI and how users experience failure. You orchestrate feature flags across dozens of surfaces without letting the codebase turn into spaghetti. You bring observability into the UI layer itself, not just leave it to the services behind it. You start owning the developer experience around you. You build component architectures that other engineers actually want to use. You establish design tokens, shape the test pyramid, keep build times fast, and write documentation through Storybook.. You learn to leverage AI as a multiplier — using it for large-scale refactors, generating tests, catching bugs early, and turning designs into components faster than ever. This space is moving fast, and staying close to it compounds your output in ways that are hard to overstate. You pick up edge and infra awareness. You start understanding how CDNs behave, why caching headers matter, what are security headers, what rate limiting strategy to adopt, when to choose SSR over CSR, and what edge functions actually unlock. And then comes the most underrated skill of all — becoming a product partner. You learn to understand the metrics your UI drives. You run small experiments, instrument funnels, and ship UI based on hypothesis rather than just feature requests. A growing Frontend Engineer is part system designer, part performance engineer, part AI workflow designer, and part product thinker!!!

This project is developed using latest technologies like Android- Studio, Gradle, Espresso and Junit tests. The team consists of 25+ Android developers and the code is continuously tested and integrated using the continuous delivery tool called Go-Ci.
Challenges:
• Working on a legacy code, and trying to make it airline agnostic, to help multiple airlines get the same app with different styling, branding and feature toggles.
• Supporting Android latest versions after every new Android OS release.
• Working on a large team with more than 50 commits in a day and producing a tested daily build for the business.
• Extracted common business logic in javascript code which can be used across platforms.
• Open-sourced multiple custom lint rules for android to be used in any application.
• Implemented credit card scanning feature in the app for doing easy payments.
• Moving code from activities to fragments as part of the new native android ui to support a navigation drawer layout.
