Great news for fellow New Zealanders. Amazon Redshift Serverless is now live in the AWS New Zealand region. You can run powerful data warehouse queries without provisioning or managing clusters — Redshift automatically scales up and down based on demand, and you only pay for the compute you actually use, billed per second. No more over-provisioning just to cope with peak workloads. Having this available in NZ means lower latency, local data residency, and a much easier way for Kiwi teams to get real insights from their data. A great step forward for the NZ cloud and data community!

Behind that effort is Lumos, their AI-driven accelerator. The scale is enormous: More than 2,000 AI models running in production 157 billion data points processed 55 million AI-driven decisions every single day What I see here is not just a cloud milestone. It is a case study in how AI is supercharging #engineers: ✔️ Taking on repetitive tasks like #documentation and validation ✔️ Building consistency into complex migrations ✔️ Freeing teams to focus on system design and innovation instead of “#vibe coding” Yes, the cost #efficiency matters. Cutting even 20 to 30 percent of manual migration effort could save tens of millions. But the bigger story is cultural. AI is becoming the accelerator that helps teams build stronger, more reliable pipelines at scale. My takeaway: the future of enterprise #AI will be shaped less by what customers see, and more by the unseen #engineering workflows that make speed, scale, and innovation possible. 💭 Where do you think #AI will drive the bigger impact in the next few years, customer experiences or the engineering foundations behind them or some place else?

Had a fantastic time at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Sydney Summit, spent most of my time speaking to people about Buildkite. I had MANY great conversations, big thanks to everyone I spoke too. ❤️ 🤯 As a principal engineer I found this valuable, as it provides me a lot of great stories to bring back to the organisation. A few observations from conversations over the two days: 1. Most people were familiar with CI/CD and considered it a standard part of development. 2. There was strong interest in standardization and understanding the value of consistency in CI/CD practices. 3. Many hadn't considered the importance of Delivery Engineering - the discipline focused on building and improving systems that accelerate software and infrastructure delivery. The last point was particularly surprising. Despite many people highlighting how slow their pipelines are, most organizations seem to underinvest in improving these critical systems. 😭 As I work on a product designed to help organizations optimize delivery performance this makes me sad. It's a solvable problem - and one worth focusing on since nobody enjoys waiting for slow builds. 🚀
