AtmoRep | ERA5 input data

Introduction

This data repository provides access to ERA5 data pre-processed for input to the AtmoRep model.

AtmoRep reads its input data and extracts its samples from monthly files, where each file contains the data of one variable and one model level. Here, we provide annual tar files per variable and model level to facilitate custom use cases. Note that each annual file has a file size of ~18 GBytes. Therefore, please plan your project carefully before starting massive data downloads.

The file format of the AtmoRep input data is grib. Every tar file contains 12 grib files of ~1.5 GBytes each.

There is nothing special about AtmoRep ERA5 input data files, so you can also retrieve this data directly from the Copernicus Climate Data Store via MARS. However, you will then need some processing of the grib files you download to ocnvert them into zarr.

Legal notes

ERA5 data is provided by ECMWF under the Copernicus license. As this is a repackaging and redistribution of ERA5 data with no changes to data values, the same license conditions apply. In particular, "Access to Copernicus Products is given for any purpose in so far as it is lawful, whereas use may include, but is not limited to: reproduction; distribution; communication to the public; adaptation, modification and combination with other data and information; or any combination of the foregoing.". You "must provide clear and visible attribution to the Copernicus programme" when making use of this data.
