The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has decided not to move forward with a standalone nature standard, for now. Instead, it will develop a non-mandatory IFRS Practice Statement on nature-related disclosures, a move that reflects a careful balancing act between advancing nature reporting and protecting the momentum behind IFRS S1 and S2. At the core of the decision is a simple but important premise: nature is already within scope. IFRS S1 requires companies to disclose all material sustainability-related risks and opportunities, which includes nature. The issue, therefore, is not whether companies should report on nature, but how they should do it in a consistent and decision-useful way. The proposed Practice Statement is intended to fill that gap by providing guidance without introducing new mandatory requirements. Due to this decision, several sustainability-focused organisations, including WWF and the Finance for Biodiversity foundation, have pushed back strongly against the non-mandatory approach. Their concern is that treating nature differently from climate could slow progress at a time when scientific consensus and market expectations are converging around the urgency and materiality of nature-related risks. From their perspective, a Practice Statement may signal importance, but it does not carry the same weight (or urgency) as a formal standard. The ISSB, however, is signalling that “non-mandatory” does not mean insignificant. The Practice Statement will be subject to full due process and will form part of the broader IFRS Sustainability literature. In practice, jurisdictions can choose to make it mandatory, and companies that apply it will be expected to meet the same level of rigour as they do with existing standards. Importantly, the ISSB has also left open the possibility of introducing a standalone nature standard in the future, depending on stakeholder feedback and market developments. Ultimately, the ISSB’s decision prioritises speed, usability and global alignment over regulatory expansion. It aims to integrate nature into existing reporting structures rather than elevate it through a separate standard, at least at this stage. What remains unresolved is the bigger strategic question: whether nature should be embedded within the current system or given the same standalone prominence as climate. The Climate Policy Initiative estimates that climate finance must reach $9 trillion annually by 2030. Current flows remain below one-third of that level. But the more critical issue is not volume. It is allocation. A disproportionate share of transition finance continues to flow towards assets that are already low-risk and low-carbon: renewable projects in developed markets (e.g. solar in Western Europe), green bonds issued by investment-grade corporates, and assets that would likely have secured financing regardless. At the same time, capital allocation to high-impact sectors remains limited. Hard-to-abate industries (including steel, cement, shipping and agriculture) receive only a fraction of the required investment, despite being central to global decarbonisation. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that clean energy investment in emerging markets must increase sevenfold by 2030. Yet this scale of adjustment remains marginal in most institutional portfolio strategies. Two structural factors help explain the misalignment: - Definitional constraints: frameworks such as the EU taxonomy were designed to classify what is already “green”, not to incentivise brown-to-green transition pathways. - Market structure limitations: despite the emergence of blended finance, Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) commitments, and corporate transition plans, the underlying risk–return imbalance remains unresolved at scale. The implication is clear: transition finance, in its current form, continues to prioritise certainty over impact. It channels capital towards what is already investable, rather than what is most critical to transform. And that is where the real gap lies. At the same time, global carbon emissions hit a record high, continuing a long-standing trend in which economic growth and emissions have moved in parallel. However, this pattern reflects current structures rather than an inherent constraint. Evidence from specific countries shows that growth and decarbonisation can be decoupled, challenging the assumption that they are structurally incompatible. Since 1990, Denmark has increased its GDP by ~40% while reducing emissions by a comparable margin. This outcome is not incidental, it reflects sustained policy direction and long-term investment alignment. Capital allocation trends are also shifting: according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) World Energy Investment Report (2023), global investment in solar reached $380 billion, surpassing oil production investment at $370 billion for the first time. Solar is now widely recognised as the lowest-cost source of electricity globally. The data does not point to a trade-off between growth and sustainability. Rather, it highlights a different tension: short-term capital allocation vs. long-term structural transformation. Organisations that align growth strategies with this transition are already demonstrating this shift. Companies like Ørsted have not reduced their growth ambitions, they have redefined them around future-oriented energy systems. The perceived binary between growth and decarbonisation is not supported by the data. For the first time, clean energy attracted nearly twice the capital flowing into oil, gas, and coal combined. The energy transition isn't a distant ambition. It's already repricing assets, rethinking supply chains, and quietly reshaping which businesses survive the next decade. The vast majority is concentrated in China, the US, and Europe. Sub-Saharan Africa, home to 600 million people without reliable electricity access, received less than 2% of global clean energy investment last year. Meanwhile, the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism began its transitional phase in October 2023, which means carbon-intensive imports are now priced differently at the border. Companies that haven't mapped their Scope 3 emissions are already behind. The headline numbers on energy transition are genuinely encouraging. The footnotes are where the real risk sits.

RESULTICKS is already operating at meaningful scale, having delivered approximately US$150 million in revenue in 2025 with EBITDA of around US$46 million and margins of roughly 32 percent. Launched in 2000, the Technology Pioneer community is composed of early to growth-stage companies from around the world that are involved in the design, development and deployment of new technologies and innovations, and are poised to have a significant impact on business and society.
The Forum recognizes a limited number of companies each year as Technology Pioneers and incorporates them into its initiatives, activities and events, where they bring cutting-edge insights to world-critical discussions. Companies selected in the past include: Airbnb, bluebird bio, Bloom Energy, Cyberdyne, Editas Medicine, Foundation Medicine, Google, Kaggle, Kickstarter, Mozilla, Palantir Technologies, Proteus Digital Health, Scribd, Spotify, Twitter, and Wikimedia
As the Organization for Public-Private Cooperation, the World Economic Forum provides the Technology Pioneers Community with a platform to engage with the public- and private-sector leaders and to contribute new solutions to overcome the current crisis and build future resiliency. -
MIT Under 35 Innovator 2022
MIT Technology Review
The Innovators Under 35 is a peer-reviewed annual award and listicle published by MIT Technology Review magazine, naming the world's top 35 innovators under the age of 35. The subcategories for the awards change from year to year, but generally focus on biomedicine, computing, communications, business, energy, materials, and the web. Nominations are sent from around the world and evaluated by a panel of expert judges.

Their transatlantic engagement continues throughout their careers with GMF alumni projects, seminars, and major events.
