Before reaching out to our support team please try the following: make sure you are using the provided power supply if your pedal came with one. Isolate the pedal by itself and see if the issue still occurs. Preform a factory reset and see if the problem persists.

Unfortunately, we can’t directly date pedals based on serial numbers. There are dedicated sites that DigiTech and DOD fans have made to date vintage gear, which can be found by looking for ‘serial number lookup DigiTech/DOD’. Using these sites, you can usually get a decent estimate of when your pedal was made.

While we don’t sell power supplies for older products you may be able to find them online. Please refer to your pedal’s manual for which power supply it uses.

A power supply will work for your pedal if:  1) it supplies the correct voltage, 2) has the correct plug size and polarity, and 3) can supply sufficient current, meaning at least as much current as the pedal requires under the pedal’s worst-case consumption conditions.

1. First, most current DigiTech and DOD & pedals require a 9 VDC power supply, but some discontinued DigiTech products were designed to use a 9 VAC power supply.  If your pedal indicates 9 VAC, it will not work with a 9 VDC power supply and vice versa.  In this case, you will need to obtain an old original DigiTech/DOD 9 VAC power supply, or find a supplier who makes a suitable replacement.
2. Second, pay attention to the plug size and polarity.  Most current DigiTech & DOD pedals (and most current pedals in the industry) utilize a center (“tip”) barrel jack with a 2.1mm diameter center pin.  Some older DigiTech & DOD pedals utilized a barrel jack with a 2.5mm center pin.  A power supply with a plug designed for a 2.1mm pin will not be able to be plugged into a barrel jack with a 2.5mm pin because the pin is too large.  (However, a power supply with a plug designed for a 2.5mm pin WILL be able to be plugged into a barrel jack with a 2.1mm pin, but the “sloppy” connection could be intermittent due to the pin diameter being smaller than intended.)  Note that there are cables available in the industry that can be plugged onto a power supply’s plug to reverse the polarity.  Often, some 3rd-party “brick” power supplies for pedal boards include at least one polarity-reverse cable for this purpose.
3. Third, power supply current requirements have historically not been marked consistently on DigiTech/DOD products and/or in the owner’s manuals, thus contributing to confusion.  Sometimes the products were marked with a current rating equal to the current-supplying capability of the particular recommended DigiTech/DOD power supply.  For example, some DigiTech products were marked as 1300 mA (1.3 A) because that was the maximum rating the currently available DigiTech/DOD power supply could provide.  This is very confusing because one might assume that the pedal consumes as much as 1300 mA of current, which is absolutely not accurate.  Instead, the product should have been marked with the actual maximum current consumption of the pedal which was more likely to be in the 200-300 mA range for digital pedals, and typically well under 50 mA for analog pedals.  (Note that a pedal potentially draws a different amount of current depending on conditions such as knob settings, signal level, LEDs turning on and off, what it’s plugged into, the actual voltage coming into the pedal, and other factors.)  So, to know if a particular power supply can supply enough current (which is directly proportional to power at a given voltage such as 9 V), you must know two things – the actual maximum current consumption of the pedal, and the actual ability of the power supply to provide at least that amount of current at that voltage (which translates to power).  And, just to be clear, a power supply that can provide more than that amount of current (or power), even a LOT more current (or power), will not damage the product; the product will only draw as much current (or power) as it needs.

DigiTech is in the process of compiling a table of current and discontinued products indicating the voltage, plug & polarity, and maximum current draw to greatly assist users in determining their power supply needs.

The ending number indicates which types of clip-on AC plug adapters came with your power supply.

-01 indicates that your pedal came with adapters for Japanese, US, and European outlets.

-02 Indicates it came with adapters for UK, Australian, and Chinese Outlets.

-04 Indicates that it came with adapters for Japanese, US, European, UK, and Australian outlets.

The Whammy needs 265 mA to operate correctly. The 1300 mA above the power jack refers to the provided power supply.

Most pedals will work great with a variety of instruments. However digital effects pedals such as the SDrum and Trio+ are optimized to ‘listen’ for a guitar/bass signal to generate their effect. These and other digital effects will still work great with similar stringed instruments such as acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin, harp, and some keyboard voices. The further away from ‘guitar’ sounds, the more difficult it will be for the algorithm to track it, and you may have varying results.

Another important aspect to keep in mind is level. Our pedals are designed to work with a certain level of signal and may have varied results and/or unwanted noise if your signal is too small or too large. Using a preamp to boost a signal or a preamp box to step it down may help you in getting the correct signal level.

We recommend finding an online guide on how to use guitar pedals with your specific instrument, as there are many resources that can walk you through it.

This is because you are hearing the sound coming from your guitar strings. Make sure to turn up your amp or try playing with headphones so you cannot hear the direct sound from your strings. If you are hearing this mixing and you are in OCT+DRY mode that is intended. This is the case for all of our pitch shifting products including those found in the Whammy family.
