Hong Kong has over 550 skyscrapers, the most of any city in the worldShenzhen has over 400 skyscrapers, the second most of any city, and the most skyscrapers taller than 200 metres (656 ft)New York City, with over 300 skyscrapers, has the most in the Western Hemisphere and third most in the world
Hong Kong is the city with the most skyscrapers taller than 150 metres (492 ft), with 569 as of 2026[update], followed by Shenzhen, New York City, Dubai, and Guangzhou. With the exception of New York City, the ten cities with the most skyscrapers are all in Asia; four of them are in mainland China. Shenzhen has the most skyscrapers taller than 200 metres (656 ft), and Dubai the most supertall skyscrapers (taller than 300 m (984 ft)). New York City had the most skyscrapers from the development of early skyscrapers until the early 2000s, when it was overtaken by Hong Kong.[citation needed]
Cities with the most completed skyscrapers
This list includes the top 50 cities by number of completed skyscrapers taller than 150 metres (492 ft), as of 15 April 2026[update], according to the Skyscraper Center database, managed by the Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU).[1] The CVU defines "Completed" as structurally and architecturally topped out, fully clad, and open for business, or at least partially occupiable.[2] The CVU measures a building’s height from the level of its lowest significant open-air pedestrian entrance to its architectural top, including spires, but excluding antennae, signage, flagpoles or other functional-technical equipment.[2] The CVU figures may also undercount a city's actual number of skyscrapers because the Skyscraper Center database represents only a majority of buildings above 200 metres (656 ft) in height and lacks comprehensive coverage of skyscrapers across all cities in the world.[3]
The following tables list the ten cities with the most skyscrapers taller than 150 metres (492 ft) by the end of the first year of every decade, according to the CVU. This includes demolished skyscrapers such as the Singer Building in New York City and the Morrison Hotel in Chicago. Skyscrapers that lack a year of completion in the CVU database were excluded.
^Penang is a state that is composed of two cities – George Town and Seberang Perai. The city of George Town may sometimes be confusingly referred to as 'Penang', as it is on The Skyscraper Center website, instead of the state as a whole.[4]
