India has operationalised 41 AI-driven agricultural applications across 11 domains, creating a data and digital infrastructure of unmatched scale – from satellite-based crop monitoring to credit, insurance, and market intelligence. The AI in Indian Agriculture Report offers a rigorous analysis of that journey, introducing a framework that distinguishes AI systems by their architectural depth –from observational and statistical models to physically grounded, causal systems. This Report highlights that the next phase of India’s agricultural AI agenda must be defined by a deliberate policy shift from deployment to impact, and from pattern-based systems to causally grounded advisory. It does not call for disruption, but for intelligent evolution building on what works, refining what can be improved, and aligning future efforts with the principles that have already demonstrated success. Session 3: Innovating Finance – Unlocking AI for Smallholder Farmers The session highlighted the importance of building coordinated and purpose-driven financial ecosystems to accelerate AI adoption in smallholder agriculture. Speakers discussed the role of aligning diverse capital streams—including public and private investments, corporate funding, and CSR—to support the development and deployment of AI solutions, while strengthening ecosystem readiness and enabling partnerships that de-risk investments.
