Kate Kallot shared thisJust landed in Oxford for the 2026 Skoll World Forum. Places like this, shaped by history, institutions, and power, are a reminder of who systems were built for, and who had to fight to be part of them. For many of us, it reminds us of the choices and sacrifices made by our forefathers for us to even be able to stand here. As AI reshapes the world, this question is back again, because this time again, it will be our choices. The choices we make now will determine whose realities are seen, and whose are left out, who gets to be part of these systems, and who is left outside of them. AI will only see what the infrastructure allows it to see. The AI infrastructure we build today will determine whether a developer in Nairobi, Accra, Jakarta, or Bangui is able to contribute to the AI economy, or simply becomes a consumer of it. Over the next few days, I’ll be in conversation with #SocialEntrepreneurs and #changemakers working to shift that, so inclusion is not just a seat at someone else’s table far away, but the ability to build your own, from home, on your own terms. I’ll be closing the forum on this note. See you there! #SkollWF #SovereignAI #AIInfrastructure #Innovation

Kate Kallot shared thisTalent is everywhere. Opportunity is not. And the difference between the two is infrastructure. At the #WBGSpringMeetings, I spoke about what it takes to move from potential to participation. Today, only 1% of global data centre capacity is in Africa. It is not a gap but a structural exclusion for millions of developers whose ideas don’t fail but instead never get built. At Amini, with our government partners we are building sovereign #AI infrastructure for the #GlobalSouth, designed for real conditions, local data, edge compute, and resilient connectivity. Because when infrastructure exists, something shifts. Developers become builders. Builders create jobs. And economies begin to retain value. This sits at the heart of the The World Bank Group’s agenda, creating more and better jobs through the right foundations for growth. We know talent already exists. So, the real question becomes, are we building systems that actually let it thrive? Grateful to Sangbu Kim and Paschal Donohoe for setting the stage, and to Raj Kumar for moderating a sharp and necessary conversation.

Kate Kallot shared thisAI is often framed as a model problem. But for much of the world, it’s an infrastructure problem. I’ve seen this up close across the #GlobalSouth, where innovation is already happening, just in a different form. It’s applied, built in context, often under constraint. What’s missing are the systems that allow it to scale. A while back, I had a conversation with Ryan Roslansky and Aneesh Raman at LinkedIn on exactly this, how we think about AI, talent, and where value actually gets created. That conversation later shaped into Chapter 8 of their upcoming book, #OpenToWorkBook . At its core is what I often refer to as “data plumbing”, the infrastructure that makes #AI usable in the real world. Whether it’s tracking climate patterns, enabling more resilient supply chains, or supporting better public decision-making, this layer determines what is actually possible. Because in the end, this isn’t just about technology. It’s about who gets to build, and where economic value is created. The book is out today, congratulations to Ryan and Aneesh on bringing this to life.

She’s been named as one of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people in AI, so it's safe to say she knows her stuff. As someone who's self-taught in tech, she knows what’s really possible if you find the right learning online. Where do you see the biggest potential for AI?

Kate Kallot reposted thisKate Kallot reposted thisThe localization agenda localized labor. It never localized capital or power. Local organizations face compliance burdens designed for 50-person finance teams, but lack the capital or authority to decide how to move them. We're just subcontracting with better language. I've lived this arc. I built Voice of Libyan Women during a civil war by working with faith leaders, not around them. That same logic, start with the community's own moral authority and capital traditions, led me to create what's now Every Pregnancy, the first zakat-approved philanthropic collaborative for maternal health. It raised $34 million in two Ramadans and over $25 million so far this Ramadan. The architecture works because it was built from the capital source outward, not retrofitted to fit donor infrastructure. Islamic financing mobilizes hundreds of billions of dollars annually in the countries where mothers and children are most likely to die from preventable causes. The sector's refusal to integrate them isn't a cultural competency gap. It's a technical failure that costs lives. Kate Kallot shared thisHonored to be delivering the keynote at #JUMPSTARTER2026 powered by the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund. The AI race is accelerating, but the real divide emerging today is between countries building the infrastructure behind intelligence and those still relying on systems they do not control. #Data, #connectivity, and #compute are becoming the new levers of economic power. Nations that fail to secure them will not simply fall behind; they risk losing the ability to participate on their own terms. Our work in the Global South is centered on changing that narrative, giving countries the choice, agency, and capacity to build sovereign, equitable AI futures. If this resonates with you and you’re building for or within the Global South, I’d love to continue the conversation. Kate Kallot reacted on thisKate Kallot reacted on thisWhat does “clarity” actually mean in high-stakes communication? For me it is not just about simpler slides or fewer words or cleaner visuals. #Clarity means: “Can someone make a decision because of what I said?” That was the core thread running through our conversation at the session "Communicating More Strategically at Work" organised by Apolitical, alongside my two brilliant co-panellists, Ann Hunter-Pirtle and Nicholas Bruneau, SCMP® moderated by Callie Bradley. And we kept coming back to one slightly uncomfortable truth: A lot of us think decision-makers are evaluating our work. They’re not. At least not always. In my experience, most of the time, they’re simply trying to make the right call, with limited time, competing priorities, and a lot riding on the outcome. Yes, they care more about the results than how polished your slides are. Which means that, when making a decision, what they’re really asking, often subconsciously, is: “If I act on this, what happens next? And what does it cost me if I don’t?” That also means that if my communication doesn’t surface trade-offs, I’m not helping them decide, I’m just informing them. And my work will not land with them. If this feels familiar, this checklist might help: 1. Is the decision obvious? Can they clearly see what you’re asking them to choose, without digging? 2. Are the trade-offs visible? What happens if they say yes, and what happens if they don’t? 3. Is there a clear “now what”? What exactly needs to happen next, and by whom? #StrategicCommunication #Leadership #DecisionMaking

Top Tier Impact mapped the full AI stack from the silicon and photonic chips at the foundation, all the way up to the agent layer where AI meets the real world. Five years ago this stack barely existed. Today it spans hundreds of startups across four layers: → Hardware & Power → Sustainability & Computing → Data Platforms, Models & Dev Tools → AI Agents & Orchestration Each layer depends on the one below it. No chips, no models. No models, no agents. No agents, no transformation. The application layer gets the headlines. The infrastructure layer gets the leverage. The agent layer is where both worlds collide. Kenya’s AI Strategy 2025–2030: A Wake-Up Call for Schools — and a Call to Action for Partners Kenya’s new National AI Strategy released earlier this year officially made education a core pillar in preparing our nation for an AI-powered future. It’s calling for: ✅ AI curriculum integration in schools ✅ Teacher training on AI and its applications in teching and learning ✅ Innovation hubs in learning institutions But here's the challenge: Most schools are still waiting, uninformed, or unsure on how to start or incorporate it in their existing systems. Other schools are underresourced. At SparkEd by AfriBrain Bespoke Software, we believe that AI education shouldn't be an afterthought — it should be the foundation. We’re working with schools to: Introduce age-appropriate AI & technology literacy in junior grades Train teachers to deliver tech-forward, inclusive content Position learners for 21st-century careers with strong problem-solving and innovation skills 🎓 Is your school ready to lead this transformation? We’re partnering with bold schools that want to be first movers in AI education. 📩 Email us: info@afribraingroup.com 🤝 Want to support the mission? We’re also calling on: Individuals, companies, and foundations passionate about digital equity Tech businesses and CSR leaders who want to equip underserved schools with computers and learning infrastructure Organizations looking to sponsor teacher training or digital labs in low-resourced areas If that’s you — let’s talk. Africa’s startup story is accelerating — and I’m proud that Google is continuing its commitment to South Africa through the Google for Startups Accelerator. Applications for our next cohort close on Sept 10th. Five months ago, I had the privilege of meeting some of the founders in our inaugural South Africa cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator. From Botlhale AI’s contact centers that use natural language processing to serve customers seamlessly in multiple African languages, to startups like VulekaPlatform and Mapha, building AI-enabled last-mile delivery networks for townships and underserved communities — I was awestruck by the ingenuity and tenacity. What struck me most then, still inspires me now. The resilience, creativity, and vision of South African founders who aren’t just building businesses, but shaping solutions that can scale across the continent and beyond. This three-month hybrid program is designed for Seed to Series A technology startups, with a mix of remote and in-person learning, 1:1 mentorship, and sprint projects. Selected founders will receive: ✅ Dedicated expert help from Googlers and industry specialists to tackle their toughest technical challenges. ✅ Specialist deep dives in product design, customer acquisition, and leadership development. ✅ Google Cloud support — including up to $350,000 in credits and 30 days of free TPU access to accelerate machine learning research. Through this program, we’re supporting 50 startups over five years with mentorship, technical expertise, and access to the best of Google’s people and products. If you’re a South African startup building solutions for our local context with the ambition to scale globally — this program is for you. 👉 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/dDrWxuTa #GoogleForStartups #Entrepreneurship #Startups #AIForAfrica #InnovationEcosystem #DigitalTransformation

OSPO Community Manager Tom Hughes attended the hackathon in-person and will be serving as the project mentor for the winning team as they participate in a 6-month mentorship engagement with Salesforce. “One of the exciting things about all seven teams is that they were taking issues that they had seen throughout Africa, in their communities, from their own personal and professional backgrounds, and bringing them to the hackathon,” said Hughes. Teams were made up of students from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Rwanda, as well as members of the The Upanzi Network at CMU-Africa. The winning team is proceeding to develop their solution—an AI chatbot to connect rural farmers with local transporters, serving a number of United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “The UN hackathon at CMU-Africa was a natural and strategic opportunity for OSPO [Open Source Programs Office] to advance its mission and support the Upanzi Network,” said OSPO Director Sayeed Choudhury.

South African AI innovation is scaling globally. 🚀 In the February 2026 edition of ITWeb Brainstorm, Spatialedge is featured among local companies expanding into the US market. While much of the AI conversation centres on hype cycles and adoption challenges, our experience has been different. Spatialedge has grown from a team of six in 2017 to over 150 today, driven by a simple principle: build AI that solves real operational problems. Our early consulting engagements allowed us to refine and package these capabilities into scalable solutions that deliver measurable business impact. That focus on practical, production-grade AI has allowed us to expand internationally, opening offices in the UK in 2022 and Austin, Texas, in late 2025. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 As part of this expansion, Pinotage Health Corporation, our healthcare venture focused on intelligent clinical documentation, is live and in use by doctors across the US. It demonstrates our ability to take advanced AI from concept to scalable operational adoption. For us, AI adoption has not been the hurdle. When solutions are grounded in domain expertise, measurable ROI, and embedded into core business workflows, demand follows. South African-built AI belongs on the global stage, and we are proud to be building it. 🚀 Click the link below to read the full article 👇 https://lnkd.in/dXXrQTKa
