Troy Hammond reposted thisTroy Hammond reposted thisI have some news. Today I step into the role of Executive Director of Growth NZ, an organisation I co-founded to advance research and public education on the policy settings and conditions needed for New Zealand's long-term prosperity. Over the past year I've had the privilege of helping build Growth NZ alongside an extraordinary group of people: innovators, business leaders, Māori economic development experts, policy thinkers and economists, all drawn together by a shared conviction: this country's best days should be ahead of it, not behind it. But getting there requires us to be honest about where we are. Why does everything feel harder? Not for one group. For everyone. The nurse who can't afford to live in the city they work in. The builder whose costs keep climbing. The founder who can't access capital locally. The young graduate deciding between staying and leaving. These aren't separate problems. They're layers of the same thing, and they've been compounding for decades. Growth NZ is independent, nonpartisan, and evidence-based. We work across five policy pillars to advance the structural reforms that will lift New Zealand's long-term GDP per capita. But here's what matters most: growth and fairness are not on opposite sides of the spectrum. The best version of a high-growth New Zealand is one where the gains are contributed to and shared in by all, where every Kiwi can aspire to dream big, where the wisdom of generations is passed on and the curiosity and ambition of generations to come is nurtured, where communities that have been underserved are part of the design from the start, not an afterthought. That's the only kind of growth worth building. I'm grateful to our Board (Anna Kominik, Bowen Pan, Privahini Bradoo, Linda Falwasser) and the roughly 50 pro-bono advisors who have poured their time and expertise into getting us here. An a big shout out to our pillar leads for their mahi thus far Maya Pan, Suse Reynolds, Anna Kominik, Sam Blackman, & Tina Dustdar. There's a lot ahead of us and we're already moving. In the coming months, we'll be reaching out to communities across NZ, so if you haven't heard from us yet, you will :) #GrowthNZ #NewZealand #EconomicGrowth #PublicPolicy

Troy Hammond shared thisI read this article by By Ronan Farrow and Andrew Marantz and thought I would ask old mate ChatGPT their unbiassed thoughts on this and if he can be trusted. It is a super interesting article. There are credible concerns about trust and transparency There is also clear evidence of competence and strong support The real question is how much trust should be placed in any single leader in such a high-stakes position https://lnkd.in/eJXKX77B

Troy Hammond reposted thisTroy Hammond reposted thisMost people are using AI wrong. In this clip, Nik Wakelin explains the real way to get value out of it: “𝘈𝘴𝘬 𝘮𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮.” That sounds simple. It’s not. Most people treat AI like Google. One prompt. One answer. Move on. The people getting real leverage are doing the opposite. They stay in the loop. They refine. They push it. They think with it. That’s where the value is. Curious how others are using it, are you treating AI like a tool, or like a thinking partner? Full episode is live if you want the deeper conversation. www.startuptheatre.com

In this episode of Startup Theatre, Troy & Serge sits down with Nik Wakelin co-founder of Sterling to unpack what AI is actually doing to engineering, startups, and how work gets done. This isn’t the usual “AI will replace everyone” narrative. Nik breaks down why we’re not seeing job collapse — we’re seeing something far more important: task collapse. We get into: • why software engineering is already changing • what “task collapse” actually means • why highly capable people are still doing low-value work • how AI creates massive leverage for builders • why the best operators will get exponentially better • what founders and engineers should be doing right now If you’re in tech, building a startup, or thinking about how AI impacts your role, this episode will change how you think about the future of work. Startup Theatre explores the real shifts happening in startups, technology, and how companies are being built today. This episode is brought to you by MentorSub. Describe the challenge you're facing. Troy Hammond reacted on thisNow you get a coach, you get a coach, you get a coach.. Today we launched Huckleberry - the professional coach you can afford to hire for every single member of the team. Seven years ago I started working with an executive coach and it was transformational. It made me a better leader, a better colleague but also a better husband and a better father. But here’s the thing - to get access to this, I just needed to be a 40-something CEO of venture backed SaaS startup. That’s just wrong on so many levels and today I’m so proud to pull the curtain back on the product I wish I had in my 20s. Try it out and let me know what you think - it’s free for anyone to try and takes seconds to get coaching. 👉🏼 https://gethuckleberry.comTroy Hammond reacted on thisIntroducing everyone's professional coach. Troy Hammond reacted on thisTroy Hammond reacted on thisI've spent the past six years helping turn a company that didn't really know what it was into one that the world's largest aerial firefighting agencies now depend on. Next week I'm proud to be stepping up to CEO of that company; TracPlus. When I joined, we were a satellite tracking company competing on price in a market full of people doing the same thing. Telling someone where an aircraft is was never the hard part. The hard part is helping governments and agencies who are spending billions on aerial firefighting actually understand whether it's working and how to do it better next season. The shift that changed everything was simple but took us a while to figure out; stop building what you think people want and go sit with them until you understand what they actually need. That shift took us from selling trackers to becoming the operational data platform the industry's biggest agencies and operators now run on. They trust TracPlus to understand what aircraft to dispatch, what their fleet actually did, where it went, what it cost, and what it achieved. The wildfire problem isn't getting smaller. The agencies and operators on the front line of it deserve partners who understand their world and build accordingly. I'm proud to be leading the team that helps others keep their communities safe. https://lnkd.in/eGQKBAj7TracPlus Announces Leadership Transition: Todd O'Hara Appointed Chief Executive OfficerTracPlus Announces Leadership Transition: Todd O'Hara Appointed Chief Executive Officer

Troy Hammond liked thisTroy Hammond liked thisDuring the VID I wondered why accountants weren't asked to comment more. Economists love data. Professors love theory. Accountants love clients. All 3 are important and no shade on the first 2 but I always felt like accountants were the under represented of the 3 during economic conversations. Every week accountants are having conversations with SME's & business leaders about what they are facing. We now have real time data. We can see how their customers and clients are responding to their offerings. We help them make tough calls. Every single week, this is what we do. Also Xero can summarise massive user data into their Small business insights. Accountants have a very unique insight into the economy and what is and isn't working. Now I could complain about our under representation but instead I chose to continue to grow my profile. To help, to add value. To share more stories about it. And then eventually you get asked to contribute. Last night I had 3 mins to try and plant some seeds for viewers to think beyond just cutting household costs and instead look at ways to increase income. Overtime, time & a half days, boarders, AirBNB, selling unused items, selling our skills. Pick something to get back in control and feel empowered. Even my Mum can hustle some knitting on FB Marketplace so Sam who watched the clip and emailed me after telling me they found 'my comments offensive and insulting' has plenty of opportunity to grow...once they are ready. Not everyone will like your solutions but we can't continue to be a country of JUST talking about problems and then expecting OUR lives to get better. Action takers always win. To the younger accountants, I hope you realise how valuable your skillset is and will be into the future. People need your help and many of the skills you have, you take for granted. Be bold and outward and put your hand up to help where you know you can.

We all want better placements, happier clients, more $. It's easy, really: - Build internal expertise to maintain optimised processes - Have better conversations with candidates and clients - Get more return on existing software investments - Find more leads and better BD opportunities - Improve candidate and client satisfaction - Reduce time-to-fill and improve ratios - Increase placement rates Simple, right? ;) ^ Not simple, of course! But I have seen (and I'm not making this up because I worked with these businesses) every single one of these things be achieved with automation - which is pretty cool tbh You might not think your business can do this. But I've seen it done. More than once. Am I saying your agency can achieve ALL of these with automation? No. It takes consistent leadership. Your team, strategy, and automation design shape success. What I do know: You get stuck because you don't know where to start. It's capable of 10x more than you're using it for. But you don't know how to get real automation ROI. The agencies I work with start small. One process. One pain point. One win. Then they build from there. ✌️ P.S. If you want to see what's possible for your business, drop me a DM. Let's jump on a call for a chat.

How 'find-able' are you? Bad news - if you make yourself super accessible, YES you open yourself up to a lot of noise... - guru coaches spruiking their magical powers ✨ - off-shore support genies 🧞♂️ - fabulous recruiters 🙋♀️ Good news - you are opening up possibly. Every call, interaction, reach out - could be the connection you never knew you needed! Today, I'm on a personal search and seeking your advice on Financial Planner recommendations. Because it would appear, when I scroll through my network of 7000+ contacts, I have a very limited pool to consider. And I know I have the contacts. But their title, their badge, their intro isn't telling me they are what I need them to be. Perhaps we have gone too fancy on titles - sprucing it up to make ourselves sound incredible - but the problem is, you might be incredible, but if you are not find-able, what good is that title doing you? Long story short - if you have had any interactions with great financial planners that you would care to share I would love to hear! The brief: - someone to provide clarity and direction - someone to help me 'adult' in the financial space - someone I can trust to share deeply personal info with

Two Lenses on the Job Market - Local & Global JOB MARKET TRENDS UPDATE – August 2025 brought more signs of recovery in Australia’s job market according to SEEK’s latest data - job ads rose 9.4% month-on-month, with strong gains in Sales, Admin, ICT, and Manufacturing. But globally, the story is more mixed. A new Staffing Industry Analysts update shows: • US hiring growth slowing, especially in manufacturing & professional services • AI and uncertainty weighing on white-collar recruitment • UK unemployment at a four-year high, with much of Europe still sluggish Read the SIA global trends update: https://lnkd.in/g6VqxTd6 I’d love to hear from recruiters, HR leaders, and hiring managers: Are you seeing the same patterns here, or is Australia really in its own lane right now?

Why are so many Change & HRIS/HCM professionals applying and so few landing roles? In the current Australian market, job applications have doubled over the past 12 months. But at the same time, job creation has dropped by 5.4% . This means we are seeing more noise, fewer meaningful opportunities, and a lot of talent sitting idle. According to JobAdder’s 2025 “State of the Market” report (via news.com.au), this mismatch is hitting mid-to-senior Transformation & Tech roles particularly hard where project-based hiring has traditionally driven demand. Here’s what I’m seeing on the ground: - Businesses are still hiring but mostly to backfill, not expand - Permanent headcount is being tightly controlled due to budget cycles - Alot of Contractors are getting snapped up fast but only if they’re project-ready - Roles are taking longer to approve, and many are being paused last minute If you’re hiring: - Be clear on the commercial impact of delay and move fast once you’re ready If you’re job searching: - Treat every application like a pitch because competition has never been higher If you’re feeling stuck: I speak to candidates and hiring leaders in this space every day and these trends are consistent. There is a gap between supply and demand is real. But so are the opportunities, especially for those who can position themselves well. Have you noticed a shift in the Transformation or HCM market lately? I'd love to hear what you think of the current market. 👇

📈 National Recruitment Activity is slightly Rising It is my job to stay relevant and know what is going, here are fresh insights from Jobs and Skills Australia’s May 2025 update: ✅ Up 2 percentage points from April, 50% of employers recruited in May ✅ This is the 4th consecutive month of strong hiring activity - now 8 points higher than the Oct 2024 low (42%) ✅ Recruitment is slightly stronger in regional areas (51%) compared to capital cities (49%) ⚠️ On the horizon: 🧾 Job ads also dipped 2.8% in May, with 208,000 listings across Australia 📊 Takeaway? While hiring activity remains high, demand could be softening slightly. One to watch closely. Curious to hear from others: Are you seeing these trends play out in your sector? Has hiring felt easier or harder in recent months? I am seeing more contracting opportunities with permanent increasing. #Recruitment #HiringTrends #AustraliaJobs #WorkforceInsights #LabourMarket #TalentAcquisition #2DoorsRecruitment

Hiring shouldn’t slow your business down — it should power it forward 🚀 📈 In Australia, 98% of businesses are SMEs. Narrow that lens to financial services, and in FY25 the sector recorded a 3.7% growth uplift — a clear signal of continued momentum and new SME entrants entering the market. 🔥 In my 10 years in recruitment, I’ve always been passionate about partnering with SMEs. I love their origin stories, the grit behind how they started, and the genuine passion and investment owners pour into their businesses. They are, without question, the backbone of our economy. 🎯 There’s a personal connection too — my parents run their own small business and I work for TOM People, an Australian small business, so I understand firsthand what’s at stake when every hire matters. 💡 Here’s why recruitment partnerships make sense for SMEs: 📧 anita.oconnor@tompeople.com #SME #banking #financialservices #smallbusiness #recruitment #australianeconomy #hiring #talentmanagement

Recruitment is changing faster than most agencies can keep up. AI, automation and digital labour platforms are no longer future talk — they’re eating into staffing revenues today. On 1 October I’ll be running a webinar with APSCo Australia: The Augmented Recruiter — Risks, Opportunities and the Future of Staffing. We’ll cover: Where AI creates real commercial value The risks if you ignore it Why agentic AI and workflow automation matter now, not later How to free recruiters from repetitive admin so they can focus on outcomes If you’re leading a recruitment business or want to understand what this shift really means for our industry, this is one to join. For me, this is also the start of connecting with more peers and leaders in Australia. I’m looking forward to sharing ideas, sparking debate, and building new relationships alongside existing ones. 👉 Register here: https://lnkd.in/ez4wbPPs

Recruitment is a people-first function, but its powered by process. If your tech can't keep up with your hiring goals, you need to rethink your stack. 🤖 A good ATS and CRM don't just make your life easier, they elevate your entire candidate experience and help your business grow sustainably. 🪴 Personally, I use JobAdder. But there are plenty on the market like Workable, Bullhorn, SnapHire - On-Demand Recruiting/HR, Employment Hero, Humanforce ... 👀 HR/Recruitment teams, which CRM/ATS tool do you use and why do you like it? ⬇️

Internal Talent vs Specialist Agencies: It’s Not a Competition, It’s a Partnership! Internal talent teams and specialist agencies both aim to secure the right hire, but they don’t play the same game. Hiring directly is not “free”. It is a cost centre with risk. ELMO’s latest HR Benchmark puts Australia’s average cost per hire at around $20,000 and one in seven new starters don’t make it past probation. Add today’s noise: two in three applicants now use AI to tailor CVs. Do you or your internal team spend longer screening look-alike applications while delivery deadlines slip? A specialist recruiter narrows the field quickly, knows where to fish, engages both passive and active talent and pressure-tests every claim. If a hire falls over, a replacement guarantee typically covers the first three to six months, protecting delivery and avoiding double the spend. At Bluefin, we proudly collaborate with in-house talent teams every day, supporting them and their hiring managers to make confident, lasting hires. The real question for leaders isn’t who sources faster, but who shares the risk when hiring goes wrong. Thoughts from both sides? #hiring #leadership #futureofwork #BluefinResources Bluefin Resources

So what is "good" when it comes to billings in Agency Recruitment in Australia in 2025? It's easy to say $500K Or $700K but in reality there are a lot of factors at play here. Here is what I think..... Building a brand new desk from scratch that has never been done by that agency. $350K first year. Thats good. 18 months experience in recruitment in the UK, moving to Australia and building a desk when you have no contacts or clients to leverage off. $400K first year is good. Straight out of Uni into a 360 agency role and you bill $400K in your first year. I think thats pretty good. Growing your contractor book month on month and growing it 30% year on year. Thats good. We can get so fixated on big numbers in our sector. When hiring so many agencies want the finished product. The 7 year recruiter from a competitor who is billing $500k + If I was hiring I'd be more inclined to go for one of the examples above. What do you think?
