Wikigap 2026 in Tirana, Albania
WikiGap 2026 in Tirana
This was the ninth year of celebrating the WikiGap editathon in Tirana Albania.
The Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group organized it on March 4, 2026, with the collaboration and support of the Swedish Embassy in Tirana and we were glad to be welcomed by Swedish Ambassador Niklas Ström, who spoke about the importance of women in the context of March 8.
This year, we focused on Wikidata, continuing the work we have built over the years around Albanian and Swedish women.
The event brought together 14 women and men to talk about women's representation in free knowledge. During the event, participants made 221 revisions on Wikidata, created 4 new Wikipedia articles, and improved 50 existing ones.
We also invited 2 guest speakers, Rachele Megna from UN Women and journalist Besar Likmeta, editor of BIRN Albania, who shared thoughts on women and gender-related data, and helped start a conversation on why this kind of information matters and why it is important to improve it on the platforms of free knowledge.
Even after 9 years of celebrating WikiGap at the Swedish Embassy in Tirana, it remains a meaningful moment to continue this important collaboration and to work for better representation of women in free knowledge.
