French Polynesia celebrates 14 public holidays each year. These holidays include the 11 celebrated in France and 4 that are specific to the island groups. All public holidays are governed under the Labor Laws of France and the French government.

The Council of Ministers of French Polynesia will make an official announcement at the end of each year for the dates of the holidays in the following year. All businesses are required to acknowledge thee dates.

Employees are entitled to a day off from work on all public holidays. Under French law, those who must work on the holiday are entitled to receive premium pay for their services. However, French labor laws do not require employers to pay employees for public holidays. Employers have the option to offer this benefit as part of the work contract.

Any holidays that occur on the weekend are recognised on those days. If a holiday occurs on a Tuesday or Thursday, some employers will recognise the holiday on Monday or Friday to allow for an extended weekend. This again is part of the work contract and not part of the Labor Laws.
