Norfolk Island is governed by Australia and national holidays celebrated on the island coincide with those in the territory of New South Wales. The laws regulating public holidays on Norfolk Island include the New South Wales Public Service Act of 1979 and the New South Wales Public Sector Management Regulations Act of 2000. Norfolk Island publishes the official dates for the following year every September or October in the Norfolk Island Government Gazette.

Norfolk Island currently celebrates 12 national holidays. Four of these holidays are specific to Norfolk Island and are not celebrated in New South Wales.

Employers are required to provide their employees with a paid day off for all national holidays. If the type of position the employee holds will not allow them to take a day off, the employee must receive premium pay for their work that day, usually twice their normal salary, or may be offered a different day off with pay in lieu of the holiday.
