East Timor currently celebrates 15 national holidays and has three tentative national holidays. For the last two years, these tentative holidays were announced as national holidays about a month before they were celebrated. It is assumed at this time that they will eventually become official holidays.

The laws governing holidays in East Timor are found in the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of East Timor of August 2005. The laws governing national holidays require that employers provide a day off to employees for the day. However, it is unknown at this time if employers are required to pay the employees for the holiday.
