According to the country’s labour code, most employees in Estonia are entitled to 13 paid national holidays per year. In general, the entitlement to paid holidays is determined by terms of either an employment contract or union bargaining agreement.

Estonia, formerly under Danish and Swedish rule, observes several national holidays based on cultural traditions and Christian observances. Although not recognized as public holidays or national holidays, several territorial and regional holidays are observed, including several Flag days. Paid time off is generally not permitted for local observances unless set forth in an employment contract or bargaining agreement.
