New Year’s Day 2027 and 2028
On 1 January, Spain, like most of the rest of the world, celebrates New Year’s Day. The main events in Spain take place during Noche Vieja, meaning “old night” and referring to New Year’s Eve.
In 2027, New Year's Day falls on Friday 1 January. The holiday will be on Saturday 1 January in 2028.

There are fireworks displays in many cities, and there is a huge New Year’s countdown event in Madrid at Puerta del Sol. But most people spend Noche Vieja with family and friends at private parties.
Some of the unique New Year’s traditions of Spain include: eating 12 grapes just as the New Year is rolling in to bring good luck in all 12 months of the year to come, eating a ring-shaped cake with prizes and good luck charms hidden inside of it, and dancing and singing “with gusto” as the clock strikes midnight.
