Early Years Admissions

Our school is an all-through independent day school for girls aged 3 to 18 located closely together across two sites in south west London. The principal points of entry into the Prep school are Nursery (3+), Reception (4+) and Year 3 (7+). 

Nursery and Reception form the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our focus is on building strong foundations for happiness, self-confidence and academic success. With a trailblazing curriculum, girls receive specialist teaching in subjects like French, Music and Physical Education (PE), alongside coding, phonics and outdoor learning. Small class sizes ensure individualised attention. Our award-winning facilities include a purpose-built gymnasium, dedicated music room, and expansive outdoor play areas that encourage risk-taking, resilience and teamwork. As a through-school, we support girls from Nursery to Sixth Form.

We invite families to visit the Prep school prior to submitting an application to get a sense of the opportunities available for your child. We offer multiple events including weekly small group tours on Wednesday and Friday mornings during term time, as well as regular taster events for your daughter.

• Early Explorers: A perfect taster session for girls aged 2-5. Your daughter can join a session alongside current Early Years pupils while you take a tour and get a feel for our Streatham & Clapham family. 

• Mini Movers: A fun and active way for your little one to start their sporting journey. Mini Movers offers a chance for girls and boys aged 2-5 to clamber, climb and play in a safe, engaging environment. Led by specialist sports teachers who inspire a love of movement. 

• Group Tours: With a personal tour from the HEad of Prep, visitors to SCPS will find a warm, inclusive community where each pupil is encouraged to excel academically and personally.

Applications into Nursery are welcome throughout the year, offering flexible start dates at the beginning of the autumn, spring, and summer terms, depending on what suits your child. Additionally, we consider half-term starts for added convenience. Your daughter can start at the school in the term or half-term after she turns 3 years old. The Early Years Grant becomes available in the term following her third birthday, and the school accepts up to 15 hours of funded care.

Applications for our Early Years are welcome throughout the year, offering flexible start dates at the beginning of the autumn, spring, and summer terms, depending on what suits your child. Before the school can consider any candidate for entry, an application form must be completed and submitted, together with: 

• a non-refundable registration fee (refer to School Fees for further details)

• a current photograph 

• your daughter’s most recent school report, if available 

• a copy of her passport (or birth certificate if passport is unavailable) 

Once you have applied for a space at SCPS, your daughter will be invited to visit for an informal play-based assessment. The visit will last for approximately 20 minutes and will take place within our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) setting where  the girls engage in “free play” as well as simple games and a one-to-one with a member of our EYFS team. There is no need for your daughter to undergo any preparation before their visit – it is our hope and aspiration for every girl who comes onsite to have a positive experience.
