I love how budget-friendly this craft is. You only need a few basic supplies, and you can customise the design to suit your home décor style. I’ll walk you through the steps, plus share a few creative ideas to make your seaglass artwork truly unique.

To be honest, I tend to skip over the small pieces of seaglass and focus on the larger, more impressive beach glass. Whereas, my kids collect pieces no matter the size. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have the little pieces that make this particular DIY seaglass art so sweet!

How to Make Seaglass Art

Paint the surface of the canvas in white. Leave it to dry.

Painting a canvas with white paint.

Layout the design directly on the canvas. In our case, we wanted to create a small indoor plant image so we positioned the ceramic piece for the vase on the lower half of the canvas. Leaving enough space for the stems and beach glass pieces above.

With the finepoint paint pen, draw lines on to the canvas for the stems extending out from the ceramic piece.

Positioning a big piece of driftwood onto the canvas.

Next, use a hot glue gun to glue the vase piece onto the canvas.

Then, add glue to the back side of the smaller green beach glass piece and press it down onto the canvas.

Continue until you’re happy with the look of the art.

Tips, Variations & Troubleshooting

Design Variations for Seaglass Wall Art

One of my favourite approaches is creating simple silhouettes. Arrange seaglass pieces into shapes like hearts, sailboats, birds, or small seaside cottages. Sketch your outline lightly in pencil first so you have a guide.

Choosing the Right Frame and Background

A shadow box frame is ideal for thicker pieces of seaglass. It gives depth and protects your design. For a softer look, use white or linen-textured cardstock as the background.

If your style leans more rustic, try a weathered wood frame. For a clean coastal vibe, stick with white, light oak, or soft grey tones.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Use a strong clear-drying adhesive suitable for glass. Craft glue often isn’t strong enough for heavier pieces. Let the glue fully cure before moving the frame.

How to Display Your Seaglass Art

DIY sea glass art works beautifully as a coastal home décor idea in a hallway, bathroom, or bedroom. Hang it near natural light to highlight the frosted texture of the glass.

For a more layered look, style your framed artwork on a shelf alongside driftwood, shells, or a small glass vase filled with extra seaglass pieces.
